Book Description
ABOUT THE BOOK: Neeti and Ronit unexpectedly ended up moving to the city of Indore in central India as tragedies struck their families. When Neeti got married to Ronit, all she wanted was to get away from her mentally unstable mother and get into a household that allowed her the freedom to work as a school teacher and the freedom to drive a car. In return, if she had to take care of her in-laws and manage the household, she was okay with that. Having witnessed her mother's utter inability to deal with life after her father's untimely demise, Neeti was determined to be self reliant and to never have expectations from anyone. If she didn't expect anything from anyone, she would never be disappointed, and never end up like her mother who had forgotten how to live. When Ronit got married to Neeti, he just wanted to get a daughter-in-law for his parents. His father had refused to undergo the bypass surgery that the doctor had recommended unless Ronit got married and Neeti came along at the right time. Living in a joint family setup with his parents and his younger college-going brother, Ronit was okay sharing a room with his mother's daughter-in-law. He didn't necessarily want a wife for himself. Having tried his hand at love and having failed at converting his previous year-long relationship into a love-marriage, he was not convinced that a woman could be both the wife that he wanted and the daughter-in-law that his family insisted on. Ronit and Neeti had made their expectations with regards to their marriage clear from the very beginning and in the last one year of being married they had both held up to their end of the bargain. Love was never a priority. It was something deemed so unimportant that neither of them brought it up before the wedding. Nor did they ever talk about it over the entire first year of being married. Will Neeti and Ronit continue to live in a loveless marriage, taking it simply as a responsibility? Or will love sneak up on them on a road-trip to Ranthambore? ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Venuka Goyal completed her undergraduate studies from IIT Bombay and graduated as a department topper. She didn't restrict herself to the library though. She was captain of the table tennis team, manager at the Entrepreneurship Cell and fulfilled other leadership roles during college. Upon graduation, she gave in to her curiosity towards science and ended up in the USA to pursue a PhD. She finished her PhD from The Ohio State University with flying colours. In her six year long stay abroad, she was bitten by the travel bug. She drove more than 20,000 kilometers in America on road trips. She drove down to Niagara Falls. She flew down to Florida and drove down to the Key West. On the West Coast she drove down from LA to Napa Valley to Yosemite to Death Valley. She went camping at the Yellowstone National park. After an enriching foreign exposure, Venuka returned to her roots. She has settled down in Indore, a city in central India, and teaches at a University. She is a mother to pre-school going twin boys and enjoys cooking and going on road trips with her family. Venuka Goyal has had the experience of working as a scientific researcher in India for several years and she published many papers in international scientific journals of repute. Stuck with You
Author: Ali Hazelwood
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 0593437829
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 122
Book Description
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella… Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level. Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn… Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leader—she’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee. Not even the most sophisticated of Sadie’s superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Erik’s steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie can’t help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed…. To read Mara and Hannah’s stories look for the novellas Under One Roof, available now, and Below Zero, coming soon from Berkley!

Give My Love to the Savages
Author: Chris Stuck
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0063029995
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 242
Book Description
“A harrowing portrait of race relations in America, as beautiful as it is urgent.”—Entertainment Weekly “Black satire with bite, like Zora Neale Hurston used to do, with a smile and a sharp elbow. A touch of Paul Beatty, a dose of Dolemite, and a serving of Dorothy Parker, too. Give My Love to the Savages announces Chris Stuck as a fearless talent, a debut that'll make your sides and your heart hurt.”—Victor LaValle, author of The Changeling “Give My Love To The Savages is a wildly inventive collection of provocative stories about navigating the minefield of black masculinity in America. Stuck’s fresh and fearless perspective overturns assumptions about race and identity to reveal complex layers of absurdity. At times merciless, always darkly funny, these are stories of unexpected communion, connection, and compassion.”—Chanelle Benz, author of The Gone Dead A provocative and raw debut collection of short fiction reminiscent of Junot Diaz’s Drown. A Black man’s life, told in scenes—through every time he’s been called nigger. A Black son who visits his estranged white father in Los Angeles just as the ’92 riots begin. A Black Republican, coping with a skin disease that has turned him white, is forced to reconsider his life. A young Black man, fetishized by an older white woman he’s just met, is offered a strange and tempting proposal. The nine tales in Give My Love to the Savages illuminate the multifaceted Black experience, exploring the thorny intersections of race, identity, and Black life through an extraordinary cast of characters. From the absurd to the starkly realistic, these stories take aim at the ironies and contradictions of the American racial experience. Chris Stuck traverses the dividing lines, and attempts to create meaning from them in unique and unusual ways. Each story considers a marker of our current culture, from uprisings and sly and not-so-sly racism, to Black fetishization and conservatism, to the obstacles placed in front of Black masculinity and Black and interracial relationships by society and circumstance. Setting these stories across America, from Los Angeles, Phoenix and the Pacific Northwest, to New York and Washington, DC, to the suburbs and small Midwestern towns, Stuck uses place to expose the absurdity of race and the odd ways that Black people and white people converge and retreat, rub against and bump into one another. Ultimately, Give My Love to the Savages is the story of America. With biting humor and careful honesty, Stuck riffs on the dichotomy of love and barbarity—the yin and yang of racial experience—and the difficult and uncertain terrain Black Americans must navigate in pursuit of their desires.
