Book Description
CHILDREN of MIDGARD The year is 961 and King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark has his gaze firmly set on the Western Kingdoms of Norway where his nephew Harald Greycloak reigns. Bluetooth has declared Greycloak as his vassal King of Norway and will claim the establishment of the Jomsvikings. In doing so he will solidify the order, building a keep for the warriors he intends to use to create a fleet of men who will rule the seas under his command. However, the order is older than one man's claim and consists of many who have their own destinies separate from the feuding monarchs. There are men of honour and worth and there are those who seek naught but power and privilege, searching only to prosper from the misery of others. There are tales of a legendary ring and a child who is said to be the progeny of the All-Father. TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction Chapters 1 through 32 Epilogue ======= Free eBook VANDRAD THE VIKING Long after King Estein had joined his fathers on the Little Holm beyond Hernersfiord, and Helgi, Earl of Askland, had become but a warlike memory, the skalds of Sogn still sang this tale of Vandrad the Viking. It contained much wonderful magic, and some astonishingly hard strokes, as they told it; but reading between their lines, the magic bears a strong resemblance to many spells cast even at this day, and as for the sword strokes, there was need for them to be hard in Norway then. For that was the age of the making of many kingdoms, and the North was beginning to do its share........ TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER I . THE WEST SEA SAILING CHAPTER II. THE BAIRN-SLAYERS CHAPTER III. THE HOLY ISLE CHAPTER IV. THE ISLAND SPELL CHAPTER V. ANDREAS THE HERMIT CHAPTER VI. THE HALL OF LIOT CHAPTER VII. THE VERDICT OF THE SWORD CHAPTER VIII. IN THE CELL BY THE ROOST CHAPTER IX. THE MESSAGE OF THE RUNES CHAPTER X. KING BUE'S FEAST CHAPTER XI. THE HOUSE IN THE FOREST CHAPTER XII. THE MAGICIAN CHAPTER XIII. ARROW AND SHIELD CHAPTER XIV. THE MIDNIGHT GUEST CHAPTER XV. THE THRALL OF LEIF THE LUCKY
Author: Ottilie A. Liljencrantz
Publisher: Abela Publishing Ltd
ISBN: 1907256628
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
Leif Ericsson, also known as “LEIF THE LUCKY”, was the second son of Erik the Red and certainly displayed the Viking spirit of action, adventure and exploration. As a young man Leif Ericsson visited Norway, where he converted to Christianity. He was charged with returning to Greenland to convert the populace, but instead sailed further west and is believed to have landed somewhere in Nova Scotia. He spent a year in North America before returning home to Greenland, where he served as governor. THE Anglo-Saxon race was in its boyhood in the days when the Vikings lived. For every heroic vice, the Vikings laid upon the opposite scale an heroic virtue. They plundered and robbed, but where they raided, they traded, as most men did in the times when “Might made Right.” Yet the heaven-sent instinct of hospitality was in the marrow of their bones. No beggar went from their doors without alms; no traveller asked in vain for shelter. As cunningly false as they were to their foes, just so superbly true were they to their friends. Above all, they were a race of conquerors, whose knee bent only to its proved superior. Their allegiance was not given to the man who was king-born, but to the man who showed himself their leader in courage and their master in skill. The film The Viking (1928) was based on this novel, which has, to some extent, been based on Viking history. 10% of the publisher’s profit from the sale of this book will be donated to Charities.
