PAR UNE ETUDE BIBLIOGRAPHIQUE SUR LES BANDES DE CISAILLEMENT DANS LES ALLIAGES AL-MG EN LAMINAGE, ON DEFINIT LES BESOINS D'UN MODELE PREVISIONNEL PAR RAPPORT A L'ETAT DE L'ART THERMO-MECANIQUE (COMPORTEMENT DES MONOCRISTAUX ET DE L'AGREGAT, INSTABILITE DE CE COMPORTEMENT). ON EN DEDUIT LES DEMANDES POUR UN NOUVEAU TYPE DE MODELE. ON MONTRE, EN OBTENANT L'EVOLUTION DE LA TEXTURE DANS UN EXEMPLE A DEUX DIMENSIONS GEOMETRIQUES, QU'UN MODELE AVEC REFERENTIEL ETENDU, DONNE PAR LE PRODUIT DE L'ESPACE DES ROTATIONS DES CRISTAUX AVEC L'ESPACE GEOMETRIQUE ABSOLU USUEL, PEUT REPONDRE AUX PROBLEMES POSES. ON DEVELOPPE ENSUITE UN MODELE COMPLET A TROIS DIMENSIONS GEOMETRIQUES TENANT COMPTE DES DEFORMATIONS FINIES, DE L'HETEROGENEITE, DE L'ANISOTROPIE ET DE L'EVOLUTION DE LA TEXTURE SUIVANT LA DEFORMATION. DANS NOTRE MODELE L'APPARITION DES BANDES DE CISAILLEMENT PEUT ETRE DETECTEE PAR UNE FRACTION CRITIQUE DE GRAINS EQUI-ORIENTES. ON DEFINIT UN PASSAGE MICRO-MACRO POUR EXPLIQUER CE MODELE: LES GRANDEURS QUI SONT INTRODUITES SONT DES FONCTIONNELLES DE CELLES DEFINIES DANS UN POLYCRISTAL MICROSCOPIQUE CLASSIQUE. CELA RESULTE PAR UNE OPERATION INTEGRALE, DITE DE GLOBALISATION, DONNANT UNE IMAGE APPROCHEE DE LA MICROSTRUCTURE DU POLYCRISTAL MOYENNANT UNE MESURE QUI OPERE SUR L'ESPACE DES ORIENTATIONS CRISTALLINES. ON PRECISE FINALEMENT LES MATHEMATIQUES A LA BASE DU MODELE PROPOSE, EN REPRENANT LES DEFINITIONS CLASSIQUES DE LA THERMO-MECANIQUE RATIONNELLE DE (W. NOLL) ET EN Y INTRODUISANT LE CONCEPT PRIMITIF D'UNIFORMITE DE DEUX POINTS MATERIELS ET EN DISCERNANT DEUX EVENEMENTS SIMULTANES ET COINCIDENT PAR LEUR PHASE DANS UN ESPACE CONVENABLE. CETTE ETUDE AXIOMATIQUE EXPLIQUE LES PASSAGES UTILISES DANS L'ECRITURE DU MODELE DE POLYCRISTAL PROPOSE

Book Description
Contributed by world-renowned specialists on the occasion of Paul Germain's 80th birthday, this unique book reflects the foundational works and the intellectual influence of this author. It presents the realm of modern thermomechanics with its extraordinary wealth of applications to the behaviour of materials, whether solid or fluid. The thirty-one contributions follow an easygoing autobiographical sketch by Paul Germain, and highlight the power and richness of a methodological approach to the phenomenology of many materials. This approach combines harmoniously thermodynamics and continuum theory in order to provide exploitable, thermodynamically admissible models of a large variety of behaviours and phenomena, including those of diffusion, thermoelasticity, viscoplasticity, relaxation, hysteresis, wetting, shape-memory effects, growth, phase transitions, stability, fracture, shocks, machining of materials, microstructured solids, complex fluids, etc. Especially aimed at graduate students, researchers, and engineers in mechanical engineering and materials science, this book also presents the state of the art in an active field of research and opens new horizons in other scientific fields, such as applied mathematics and applied physics, because of the intellectual satisfaction and remarkable efficiency provided by the advocated approach.

Book Description
In mechanical engineering and structural analysis there is a significant gap between the material models currently used by engineers for industry applications and those already available in research laboratories. This is especially apparent with the huge progress of computational possibilities and the corresponding dissemination of numerical tools in engineering practice, which essentially deliver linear solutions. Future improvements of design and life assessment methods necessarily involve non-linear solutions for inelastic responses, in plasticity or viscoplasticity, as well as damage and fracture analyses. The dissemination of knowledge can be improved by software developments, data base completion and generalization, but also by information and training. With such a perspective Non-Linear Mechanics of Materials proposes a knowledge actualization, in order to better understand and use recent material constitutive and damage modeling methods in the context of structural analysis or multiscale material microstructure computations.

Book Description
On the roots of continuum mechanics in differential geometry -- a review.- Cosserat media.- Cosserat-type shells.- Cosserat-type rods.- Micromorphic media.- Electromagnetism and generalized continua.- Computational methods for generalized continua. The need of generalized continua models is coming from practice. Complex material behavior sometimes cannot be presented by the classical Cauchy continua. At present the attention of the scientists in this field is focused on the most recent research items • new models, • application of well-known models to new problems, • micro-macro aspects, • computational effort, and • possibilities to identify the constitutive equations The new research directions are discussed in this volume - from the point of view of modeling and simulation, identification, and numerical methods.

Book Description
The future evolution of the debris environment will be forecast on the basis of traffic models and possible hazard mitigation practices. The text shows how large trackable objects will have re-entry pinpointed and predictions made on related risk assessment for possible ground impact. Models will also be described for meteoroids which are also a prevailing risk.

Book Description
Recent developments in engineering and technology have brought about serious and enlarged demands for reliability, safety and economy in wide range of fields such as aeronautics, nuclear engineering, civil and structural engineering, automotive and production industry. This, in turn, has caused more interest in continuum damage mechanics and its engineering applications. This book aims to give a concise overview of the current state of damage mechanics, and then to show the fascinating possibility of this promising branch of mechanics, and to provide researchers, engineers and graduate students with an intelligible and self-contained textbook. The book consists of two parts and an appendix. Part I is concerned with the foundation of continuum damage mechanics. Basic concepts of material damage and the mechanical representation of damage state of various kinds are described in Chapters 1 and 2. In Chapters 3-5, irreversible thermodynamics, thermodynamic constitutive theory and its application to the modeling of the constitutive and the evolution equations of damaged materials are descried as a systematic basis for the subsequent development throughout the book. Part II describes the application of the fundamental theories developed in Part I to typical damage and fracture problems encountered in various fields of the current engineering. Important engineering aspects of elastic-plastic or ductile damage, their damage mechanics modeling and their further refinement are first discussed in Chapter 6. Chapters 7 and 8 are concerned with the modeling of fatigue, creep, creep-fatigue and their engineering application. Damage mechanics modeling of complicated crack closure behavior in elastic-brittle and composite materials are discussed in Chapters 9 and 10. In Chapter 11, applicability of the local approach to fracture by means of damage mechanics and finite element method, and the ensuing mathematical and numerical problems are briefly discussed. A proper understanding of the subject matter requires knowledge of tensor algebra and tensor calculus. At the end of this book, therefore, the foundations of tensor analysis are presented in the Appendix, especially for readers with insufficient mathematical background, but with keen interest in this exciting field of mechanics.

Book Description
In their 1909 publication Théorie des corps déformables, Eugène and François Cosserat made a historic contribution to materials science by establishing the fundamental principles of the mechanics of generalized continua. The chapters collected in this volume showcase the many areas of continuum mechanics that grew out of the foundational work of the Cosserat brothers. The included contributions provide a detailed survey of the most recent theoretical developments in the field of generalized continuum mechanics and can serve as a useful reference for graduate students and researchers in mechanical engineering, materials science, applied physics and applied mathematics.
