Book Description
The second International Conference on Trends in Quantum Electron ics (TQE'85) was held in Bucharest at the National Centre for Physics in September 1985, and brought together more than 350 scientists from 22 countries. In accordance with the objectives established at the first conference, which was held in 1982 in conjunction with the third International Summer School in Coherent Optics, the second conference con centrated upon the central topics and chief directions of development in quantum electronics - which stands out as an area of science and technology that is currently expanding vigorously. On the other hand, it was also apparent that TQE'85 was primarily influenced by the worldwide celebration, in 1985, of the 25th anniversary of the laser - a moment of prime importance in the development of many frontline fields, including communications, chemistry, biology, health care and materials processing. A special session was devoted to this anniversary. In keeping with the dynamic spirit of the conference, the fine quality of the invited lectures and the other contributions set a high scientific standard for the proceedings. Mention should be made of the posters that were presented throughout the conference. These, together with the exhibition of books and journals and a display of specialized scientific equipment, did much to create a framework for effective communication and stimulating interaction, to the benefit of all the participants. Of invaluable help in the preparation of the conference was the collaboration of the International Scientific Advisory Committee.

Book Description
This book is the proceedings of the 9th International Symposium on Foundations of Quantum Mechanics in the Light of New Technology (ISQM?TOKYO'08) which aims to link the recent advances in technology with fundamental problems in quantum mechanics. It also discusses fundamental problems and issues in quantum physics and places a special emphasis on ?Quantum Coherence and Decoherence?.The proceedings included a special lecture by Prof C N Yang, ?Pseudopotential Method in Cold Atom Research?, and 75 refereed papers covering the wide range of quantum physics: cold atoms and molecules; spin-Hall effect and anomalous Hall effect; magnetic domain wall dynamics and spin-related phenomena; Dirac fermions in condensed matter; quantum dot systems; entanglement and quantum information processing, qubit manipulations; mechanical properties of confined geometry; precise measurements; novel properties of nano-systems; and fundamental problems in quantum physics. The book will not only serve as a good reference for experts on quantum coherence and decoherence, but also as an introduction for newcomers to this field.

Book Description
This proceedings volume contains selected talks and poster presentations from the 9th International Conference on Path Integrals — New Trends and Perspectives, which took place at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany, during the period September 23-28, 2007. Continuing the well-developed tradition of the conference series, the present status of both the different techniques of path integral calculations and their diverse applications to many fields of physics and chemistry is reviewed. This is reflected in the main topics in this volume, which range from more traditional fields such as general quantum physics and quantum or statistical field theory through technical aspects like Monte Carlo simulations to more modern applications in the realm of quantum gravity and astrophysics, condensed matter physics with topical subjects such as Bose-Einstein condensation or quantum wires, biophysics and econophysics. All articles are successfully tied together by the common method of path integration; as a result, special methodological advancements in one topic could be transferred to other topics.
