The first part of the book is a revised edition of To Rome and Beyond, self published in 1981 by Colonel John E. Krebs. The purpose was to have a combat battle record of B Company 760th Tank Battalion. The book was to be ready for the 1981 reunion in Denver, Colorado and was presented with great success although only 200 copies were available, orders were taken and more than 7000 copies were sold. At the Denver reunion the decision was made for the veteran members to begin gathering stories about their battle memories. Over the next several years the stories came in and Our Story of the 760th Tank Battalion WWII took shape. Colonel Helmuth Froeschle who was the last Battlion Commander as well as the Battlion Historian began putting Our Story together. The story was completed in 13 chapters in 2002, as I predicted previously, we now have a complete history of the 760th Tank Battalion. General Mark W. Clark wrote, "Your 760th Tank Battalion made a fine record for itself". Colonel Froeschle and I agreed these stories should be adapted and published in a book titled "To Rome and Beyond with Our Story of the 760th Tank Battalion WWII" This book is the factual account of firece fire fights with Tiger Tanks and the dreaded 88MM gun, daring patrols into enemy territory, momentary capture by German Soldiers during an artillery shelling, the anguish and sorrow of a comrade's death, the destruction of battle and the discomfort of the Italian winters with freezing rain and snow that turned battle terrain into a sea of mud.

The Roman Empire had a rich and multifaceted visual culture, which was often variegated due to the sprawling geography of its provinces. In this remarkable work of scholarship, a group of international scholars has come together to find alternative ways to discuss the nature and development of the art and archaeology of the Roman provinces. The result is a collection of nineteen compelling essays—accompanied by carefully curated visual documentation, seven detailed maps, and an extensive bibliography—organized around the four major themes of provincial contexts, tradition and innovation, networks and movements, and local accents in an imperial context. Easy assumptions about provincial dependence on metropolitian models give way to more complicated stories. Similarities and divergences in local and regional responses to Rome appear, but not always in predictable places and in far from predictable patterns. The authors dismiss entrenched barriers between art and archaeology, center and provinces, even “good art” and “bad art,” extending their observations well beyond the empire’s boundaries, and examining phenomena, sites, and monuments not often found in books about Roman art history or archaeology. By the third century BC, the once-modest settlement of Rome had conquered most of Italy and was poised to build an empire throughout the Mediterranean basin. What transformed a humble city into the preeminent power of the region? In The Rise of Rome, the historian and archaeologist Kathryn Lomas reconstructs the diplomatic ploys, political stratagems, and cultural exchanges whereby Rome established itself as a dominant player in a region already brimming with competitors. The Latin world, she argues, was not so much subjugated by Rome as unified by it. This new type of society that emerged from Rome’s conquest and unification of Italy would serve as a political model for centuries to come. Archaic Italy was home to a vast range of ethnic communities, each with its own language and customs. Some such as the Etruscans, and later the Samnites, were major rivals of Rome. From the late Iron Age onward, these groups interacted in increasingly dynamic ways within Italy and beyond, expanding trade and influencing religion, dress, architecture, weaponry, and government throughout the region. Rome manipulated preexisting social and political structures in the conquered territories with great care, extending strategic invitations to citizenship and thereby allowing a degree of local independence while also fostering a sense of imperial belonging.
