They were all commu nicated to him in ferapt, at they were occajional ly writ. But the latter not having been connected and put together under dtfirent heads, and in the fame order at the former had been, before his death, if that may be called order; I have contented myfirlf to corrcc? And extend the; a little, and to leave them at Fragments, or Mnutet, in the form tn which they appear, tho, they might be fiiled Ef jajs with no more impropriety than thofe which precede them. They are all nothing more than repetitions of conver/'ationc often interrupted, often renewed, and often carried on a little confitjedly. T he opinions I held are expo/ed as clearly, at they ought to be by a man who thinks his opinzom found ed in truth. I thought, and I think fiill, that mine were jo. The more tmportant, therefore, the fielded: are, the more neceflary it fecrned to me not to d} gui/e the truth, e/pccially to friends not ea/j to be j'candalized, even when their own opinion; and p.
