Book Description
The See-Saw Tree looks at an important environmental issue in an entertaining but thought-provoking way. The See-Saw Tree, an ancient oak, stands on ground which is ear-marked for development into a children's playground by Mr. Jay, owner of the nearby supermarket. A public meeting is called in the village hall to discuss his proposals, which include cutting down the three-hundred-year-old oak tree. The audience votes in favour, but Mr. Bunn, an environmental activist protests and shows us the devastating effect such plans will have on the inhabitants of the tree - the main part of the play tells the story of these creatures (who can be played by their human equivalents), their panic, their resilience and their evacuation from the tree. In the end, the audience is asked to vote whether the See-Saw Tree should be saved or not.

Book Description
Charla is the new girl at school, nervous about her shabby clothes and mourning her parents' break-up. Paige, Charla's new friend, is only concerned with fashion, gossip, and her good-looking boyfriend, but the emptiness of her life soon comes to light. Josh, a shy and timid loner, neglected by his career-minded parents, resorts to magic in order to make himself disappear when being victimized by the school bully, Adam, who passes on the rough treatment he receives at home. With adult characters represented only by puppets and inanimate objects--a busy career mom is a briefcase containing video games and a plush pillow heart, while a single working mom is a marionette caught up in her strings--the unique world of the four young people in Seesaw reaches us through their own eyes.

Book Description
Kids of today face a different world – and a different set of challenges – then did the children of even 15 years ago. Playing with a Purpose features a collection of monologues that reflects these new attitudes and circumstances. Highly diversified in its view of the family and the child's place in the world, the monologues have been chosen from several sources: from contemporary playwrights and screenwriters; from YouthPlays, a new company that specializes in publishing cutting-edge plays for the youth market; and from such conservatories for young actors as The Playground, the Los Angeles-based training center run by Gary Spatz, the leading acting coach for performers ages 6 to 16. “Playing with a purpose” is an idea that arose from Fife's work with young actors over the course of several decades. The included monologues have been chosen and arranged to allow for a young actor's development. From “Getting Started: Simple Situations and Circumstances” to “Intermediate: Adding Elements of Character” to “Advanced: Character Counts ” each chapter includes pieces that will test the young actor's ability, while making use of the lessons presented in each.
