Book Description
Excerpt from The Market Reporter, Vol. 2: December 4, 1920 Marked variations in price fluctuations at different market centers suggested an attempt by packers to realign values fol lowing the chaotic trade conditions of the preceding week. This was indicated by a net decline on beef steers at Kansas City of 50[ to and a 254: to 7511 net advance at Chicago. At the last-named market steers above: $12 at mid week showed irregular adv auces oi $1 to $2 over the low spot of the week previous'. Except for a few prime yearlings, however, 25[ to 7511: of this gain was lost before the week's close. Quality and condition of offerings at Chi cago were somewhat better than: the low average a week earlier. This Was due to a decrease of 15, 000 for the week in range cattle and to a relatively Targer showing of cattle that showed corn feeding. The latter included a number of loads of long-fed stock that had been fed with steers prepared for the International Exposition. These in cluded two loads of yearling steers that sold up to $17. 75 and $18. A few odd head of more mature prime steers also reached these figm es. Such specialties, however, were so far above the general run of offerings as to be of little interest except as a matter of record. No heavy beef cattle passed $16 75 in carload lots and these were long feds good enough for almost any outlet.
