Book Description
For the first time, the adventures of Team 9, the Allied worlds and their battles against the supernatural menace known as Apaht are available in one book, Alliance Eternal. It begins with The Legend of Team 9, which tells the story of the Alliance, a vast and far flung collection of worlds brought together by the Allen field, a living energy source connecting all sentient beings. With the field come an equally vast array of abilities, including effortless travel between worlds, a form of telepathy and near immortality. The field is the bedrock of the Alliance; however, the Allies are shaken to their very core as they and their elite group of explorers, Team 9, make a startling discovery: The field is dying. In time, they learn that Apaht, a powerful supernatural being of pure malice, seeks to extinguish the field. An all-out effort is launched to protect it and save the Alliance. Nearly two centuries later, remnants of the group that defended the Allied worlds and vanquished Apaht are brought together to investigate a troubling new enigma involving the field. Tales of Section Zero begins with vast stretches of space inexplicably falling dark, bereft of the Allen field and the abilities it enables. Worse yet, the regions seem to be expanding. On a lonely and desolate outpost called Discovery 11, they learn that the cause of the dead zones lies in the Alliance's distant past, in a long-forgotten search to create an all-seeing machine called an omniviewer. It's up to Paul Hewitt, an immortal operative of the Alliance's intelligence service, to realize how the Alliance's ancient quest to peer into any corner of existence is roiling the field once again.

Book Description
Long before strip malls, television and huge retail chains homogenized American culture, minor league baseball clubs represented individual, local ideals. Fans turned out in droves to see their hometown heroes, and teams were sources of civic pride and popular recreation. Gradually, these teams and leagues were either driven under or swallowed up by baseball's vertical integration, and by 1963 a significant piece of the American landscape had all but disappeared. This heavily researched reference work covers every official minor league All-Star team from 1922 (when the first such team was named) to 1962 (the last year of the AAA-D classification system). Each entry includes the full roster of an All-Star team, complete individual hitting and pitching statistics, and detailed commentary on the selections. Where sabermetrics indicate more-deserving players were passed over, the author presents the case for alternative candidates.

Book Description
Though Satchel Paige lived into the early 1980s, much of our information about his life and especially his career is the stuff of anecdote. He is nevertheless a central figure--arguably the central figure--in our reconstructions of Negro Leagues history. This collection of papers from the 9th Annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference focuses on the celebrity of Satchel Paige and the team he is most closely associated with, the Kansas City Monarchs. Accounts of Paige's exploits are scrutinized and the effects of his fame, on both the contemporary perception of black baseball and its depiction in the years since, are discussed.

Book Description
The representation of non-Western cultures in opera has long been a focus of critical inquiry. Within this field, the diverse relationships between opera and First Nations and Indigenous cultures, however, have received far less attention. Opera Indigene takes this subject as its focus, addressing the changing historical depictions of Indigenous cultures in opera and the more contemporary practices of Indigenous and First Nations artists. The use of 're/presenting' in the title signals an important distinction between how representations of Indigenous identity have been constructed in operatic history and how Indigenous artists have more recently utilized opera as an interface to present and develop their cultural practices. This volume explores how operas on Indigenous subjects reflect the evolving relationships between Indigenous peoples, the colonizing forces of imperial power, and forms of internal colonization in developing nation-states. Drawing upon postcolonial theory, ethnomusicology, cultural geography and critical discourses on nationalism and multiculturalism, the collection brings together experts on opera and music in Canada, the Americas and Australia in a stimulating comparative study of operatic re/presentation.
