Also, Saudi Arabia's human rights record remains among the worst in the world, with pressure on Saudi Arabia over the detention and treatment of political prisoners having grown in 2019: Female activists being subjected to electric shocks, lashings and sexual harassment in custody, in a crackdown ordered by King Salman's heir, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who was also responsible for the murder of the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
