Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 79: March 8, 1917 If all the Latter - day Saint boys and girls are well informed in Scripture reading, if they know the New Testament and the Bible and the Scriptures of the N ephites and the Scriptures of latter times, the revelations through the Prophet Joseph Smith, and so forth, they are well fortified. But let the effort be made to make a better report than we have succeeded in doing in the past in regard to the activities of the Priesthood and of the people. Let us do that. And we want the assistance of our sisters there in, as well of the brethren. We want everyone to have an opportunity, and I believe that there is no excuse for any member of the Priesthood in this Church, or any member of this Church. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: April 22, 1926 Mormonism makes no claim to originality, so far as its doc trines are concerned. Framed in the heavens, it was revealed first to Adam; after him to Enoch, to Noah, to Abraham, and to Moses, in a series of dispensations reaching down to the days of Christ, and on into these latter days, when it has come again, this time to prepare the way before the second appearing of the Lord and the winding up of His work as pertaining to this planet. Such is its ancient past and present purpose, as set forth in the sacred books of the Church. These books, in addition to the Bible, are the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, the latter two containing the revelations of Jesus Christ to His servant Joseph Smith. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: February 11, 1926 The reality of God the Father, the reality Of Jesus Christ, the risen Lord, is a truth which should possess every human soul. God is the centre of the human mind as surely as the sun is the centre of this universe, and once we feel His Fatherhood, once we feel His nearness, sense the divinity of the deity Of the Saviour, the truths Of the Gospel Of Jesus Christ follow as naturally as the day the night, and as night the day. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: June 17, 1926 Mormon Church was denied admission because it was regarded as not being a Christian church. Now it appears to me that with the facts, which are readily at hand and within reach of any investigator, it is easily seen that we are decidedly a Christian church. Ours is the only Church that bears the name of the Saviour. It is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that alone, if we are sincere in our belief, and we are, is sufficient proof that we are Christians. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: February 18, 1926 The Church, thoroughly reprobate, created offices at pleasure and laid claim to secular authority, notwithstanding our Lord's avowal to Pilate, My kingdom is not of this world. While still boasting its divine origin as founded by Jesus Christ, who refused earthly kingship, the Church lifted itself above all kings and rulers, and arrogated to itself supremacy in the affairs of nations. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: August 12, 1926 Have we obeyed the Gospel Of the Lord Jesus Christ; have we had faith in Him; have we believed in Him; and have we been repentant and turned away from our wrongdoing? Have we hearkened to the testimony and advice and counsel of the servants of God? Have we gone into the waters of baptism and received the remission of our sins Have hands been laid upon us for the reception Of the Holy Ghost? If we can answer these questions in the affirmative, every one of us can rise and say, I know that this is the work of God, because I have received the gift of the Holy Ghost, through which, and through which alone, any man can know of the things of God. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: November 4, 1926 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come. The Prophet was true to his principles. He established schools and championed the cause of education. A Mormon writer has said: His educational ideals passed over the threshold of Time and strode down the halls of Eternity. '\vith a full appreciation of the knowledge that makes men and women capable and skilful in this life, he prized and taught others to prize, above all, the knowledge that maketh wise unto salvation. How to make a living here, how to solve life's every-day problems, was, of course, important; but how to grapple successfully with the mightier problems of the Great Hereafter, how to store up treasures in heaven and lay hold upon eternal life. Was far more consequential. Education meant to him the leading out of all the latent potential powers of the individual, the training to perfection of every divine attribute in man, as the child of God and as a god himself, in embryo. He stood for the full and complete development of the soul - body and spirit combined - mental, physical, moral, and spiritual education, the education contemplated and ineul cated by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: July 8, 1926 He was a Modernist. He did not believe in miracles. He did not realise that it was by divine power that this marvelous deed was done. His child mind could not allow for the difference the vast difference between the omnipotence of Almighty God and the puny strength of mortal man. And that's the trouble with many grown up children at the present time. They who doubt the divinity of Jesus Christ can hardly be expected to believe in the wonderful works wrought by Him. But they who accept Him as the Son of God can accept His miracles also, the problem resolving itself into a simple question of cause and effect. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: May 20, 1926 Introduction. Through the sin of Adam all were banished from the presence of their Heavenly Father. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, who died for all, thereby atoning for the sin of Adam, all may go back into the Father's presence. For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him. And he hath risen again from the dead, that he might bring all men unto him, on condition of repentance - Doctrine and Covenants 18: 11-12. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: June 3, 1926 Nor did they believe Paul when he declared to King Agrippa and Festus, that as he journeyed to Damascus at noon day a light brighter than the sun descended from heaven, which caused him and those who were with him to fall to the earth. A voice called to him declaring that it was Jesus of Nazareth who spoke, telling him to arise, and stand upon his feet, and said: I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness to the people, especially to the Gentiles, to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God. The Redeemer had been crucified, declared dead, and Festus could not understand how He could appear to anyone; he cried out: Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But Paul answered, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. So do we in soberness and truth bear witness to the people of the world to-day, to king and subject, to patrician and plebian, to rich and poor, to Christian and heathen, that Joseph Smith was divinely called to be the instrument in the hands of the Lord in the restoration of the Gospel of Christ; that the keys of the Priesthood were conferred upon him as has been stated, and have come down through his successors to the present. Another thing to which we bear witness is, that all men may know the truth of the testimony which we bear by asking the Lord for it in faith. It is not by words of men that you have been con verted, my brethren and sisters, but by the gift of the Holy Ghost, which has borne witness of the truth of these things; and this great congregation of people would arise and testify to the truth of what I say if requested to do so. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: April 1, 1926 It was Jesus to whom she spake, her beloved Lord, though she knew it not. One word from His living lips changed her agonized grief into ecstatic joy. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. The voice, the tone, the tender accent she had heard and loved in the earlier days lifted her from the despairing depths into which she had sunk. She turned, and saw the Lord. In a transport of joy she reached out her arms to embrace Him, uttering only the endear ing and worshipful word, Rabboni, meaning My beloved Master. Jesus restrained herimpulsivemanifestation of reverent love, saying, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father, and adding, but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
