"When DangerZone Industries released the latest and greatest Virtual Reality MMORPG, James, and millions of other virtual reality players, sought purpose and self-definition in this new world. The tag line 'Live the life your soul was meant for,' captured the hearts and minds of his entire generation. 'The Land' was the largest and most dynamic virtual reality world of all time. As such, James and his friends devoted countless hours to become one of the top teams in the game. None of that mattered after James was actually summoned to this strange world. To his dread, he discovered The Land was not an engrossing game. It was a horrific struggle of life and death. James will have to fight, and kill, in order to survive while becoming embroiled in an age-old war between sprites and goblins, avoiding the machinations of the local king and helping an enslaved woman know freedom once again." --

East Atlanta
Author: Henry Bryant and Katina VanCronkhite
Publisher: Arcadia Publishing
ISBN: 146711121X
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 128
Book Description
Located only two miles from downtown Atlanta, East Atlanta has its own distinct history and identity. Over the decades, this area has impacted the development of Atlanta and the nation. The Battle of Atlanta, fought on East Atlanta ground in 1864, changed the course of the Civil War. The battlefield grew into a suburban community of Victorian homes, Craftsman bungalows, and thriving businesses throughout the early and mid-1900s. Beginning in the 1960s, the civil rights movement in Atlanta actively challenged and transformed the community. Often compared to an early Greenwich Village, East Atlanta is known today as a progressive, friendly, and diverse community and destination. This diversity reflects the pioneering and creative spirit of those who came before, including farmers and dairymen, hard-working neighbors, an Atlanta mayor, a Georgia sports legend, an Indianapolis race-car builder, the first broadcast country music star, and multiple civil rights leaders.

A New Social Contract in a Latin American Education Context
Author: D. Streck
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0230115292
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 337
Book Description
A New Social Contract in a Latin American Education Context is committed to what has become known as "perspective of the South:" understanding the South not as a geographical reference but as a vindication of the existence of ways of knowing and of living which struggle for their survival and for a legitimate place in a world where the respect for difference is balanced with the right for equality. The metaphor of the new social contract stands for the desire to envision another world, which paradoxically cannot but spring out of the entrails of the existing one. Could the same contract under which the colonial orders were erected serve as a tool for decolonizing relations, knowledge, and power? Consequently, what kind of education could effectively help structure a new social contract? These are some of the questions Streck addresses.

Spirits and Ships
Author: Andrea Acri
Publisher: ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute
ISBN: 981476275X
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 587
Book Description
This volume seeks to foreground a “borderless” history and geography of South, Southeast, and East Asian littoral zones that would be maritime-focused, and thereby explore the ancient connections and dynamics of interaction that favoured the encounters among the cultures found throughout the region stretching from the Indian Ocean littorals to the Western Pacific, from the early historical period to the present. Transcending the artificial boundaries of macro-regions and nation-states, and trying to bridge the arbitrary divide between (inherently cosmopolitan) “high” cultures (e.g. Sanskritic, Sinitic, or Islamicate) and “local” or “indigenous” cultures, this multidisciplinary volume explores the metaphor of Monsoon Asia as a vast geo-environmental area inhabited by speakers of numerous language phyla, which for millennia has formed an integrated system of littorals where crops, goods, ideas, cosmologies, and ritual practices circulated on the sea-routes governed by the seasonal monsoon winds. The collective body of work presented in the volume describes Monsoon Asia as an ideal theatre for circulatory dynamics of cultural transfer, interaction, acceptance, selection, and avoidance, and argues that, despite the rich ethnic, linguistic and sociocultural diversity, a shared pattern of values, norms, and cultural models is discernible throughout the region.
