Liberation of Different Pyrite Types in Refractory Gold Ores
Author: Ditend Kanyik Tesh
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Gold
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
"At Newcrest's Lihir operation, pyrite is the main gold-bearing mineral. Previous work has shown that gold is not evenly distributed in the pyrite mineral, with some pyrite types containing a relatively higher proportion of gold and some being virtually barren. The first objective of this project was to identify a methodology that allows the classification of pyrite into different populations reflecting their chemistry and gold content. The second objective was to break the ore using a variety of different breakage devices, to enhance the liberation of arsenian pyrite and upgrade the Au/S ratio. ... The results from this project suggest that the breakage device and the mineralogy of the ore are the key factors in determining how minerals break. One major contribution of this project is the measurement of Vickers Microhardness of pyrite and arsenian pyrite in the ore tested. Vickers Microhardness measurements indicate that arsenian pyrite is softer than pyrite, which contributed to its deportment into the finest size classes. This was a novel finding as it had not been conducted before. It is believed that this knowledge will contribute to the understanding of the breakage properties of the ore." - Abstract.
