Book Description
When Chester W. Chester IV inherits a hundred acres of rolling green lawn surrounding a fifty-room Neo-Victorian eyesore crammed with his Great-Grandfather’s Invention, his friend Case Mulvihill, ex-carny hand, was curious. Visiting the house, they discover that the giant computer, filling not only the former wine cellars but a system of caverns underlying a large part of the county as well, is still in working order, busily coding and storing information in accordance with the last instructions of Chester’s long-dead ancestor. When Chester types a question on the computer’s keyboard, it at once recognizes him as the descendant of the inventor—and permits him entrance to the secret inner chamber which is the actual nerve-center of the gigantic thinking machine. Case at once envisions a quick fortune to be made from the great computer, which can seemingly answer any question put to it—but Chester reminds him of the outstanding inheritance tax due to the Internal Revenue Bureau before Chester can legally take possession: several million credits—due and payable now! Experimenting further with the computer while sampling Great-grandpop’s wine stocks, Case and Chester discover that the machine has the capability of presenting remarkably lifelike scenes on the Tri-D wall of the control room. A chance remark of Chester’s suggests a scheme to Case: he and Chester will propose to the Internal Revenue Bureau that they be permitted to operate the machine on a cash-admission basis to raise the needed tax money. But rather than offering a mere information service, they will convince the IRB officials that they have on hand a real, live, TIME MACHINE! This is the original version of Keith Laumer's epic time travel novel, The Great Time Machine Hoax, as it was originally serialized in the pages of Fantastic Magazine in the summer of 1963. This version features considerable differences from the novel version.

Book Description
Every age has characteristic inventions that change the world. In the 19th century it was the steam engine and the train. For the 20th, electric and gasoline power, aircraft, nuclear weapons, even ventures into space. Today, the planet is awash with electronic business, chatter and virtual-reality entertainment so brilliant that the division between real and simulated is hard to discern. But one new idea from the 19th century has failed, so far, to enter reality—time travel, using machines to turn the time dimension into a two-way highway. Will it come true, as foreseen in science fiction? Might we expect visits to and from the future, sooner than from space? That is the Time Machine Hypothesis, examined here by futurist Damien Broderick, an award-winning writer and theorist of the genre of the future. Broderick homes in on the topic through the lens of science as well as fiction, exploring some fifty different time-travel scenarios and conundrums found in the science fiction literature and film.

Book Description
The Time Machine by H. G. Wells is a science fiction classic, which lends itself well to visualization. This version, illustrated by Yoann Laurent-Rouault, an illustrator master who graduated from the Beaux-Arts, and published in the international literary collection Memoria Books, is a reference on the time travel theme. Wells transports us in the year 802 701, in a society made up of the “Elois”, who live peacefully in a kind of big Garden of Eden, eating fruits and sleeping high up, while underground lives another species, also descending from men, the “Morlocks”, who do not stand the light anymore, living in the dark for too long now. At night, they return to the surface, going back up by the wells, in order to kidnap some Elois that they eat ; these last became livestock unknowingly. In The Time Machine, made into a movie several times, the last of them in 2002 by Simon Wells, the great-grandson of H. G. Wells, time is both a pretext to move the class struggle and warn... and also, in a way, a full character, who fascinates, arbitrates, transcends... The illustrations come to reinforce the time travel and provide a new experience to the reader.

Book Description
Mankind was at war with the hideous Gool...and losing. Then, beyond Ganymead, one man fought the searing brain probe of an alien spy...and won. He mastered the power of its telepathic mind-control, captured the secret of its matter transmitters, and learned how to destroy the Gool Overlords. He called intelligence with news of the victory and headed home. Straight into a barrage of Terran nuclear warheads. Past missiles, shells, and assassins, he made it home - alone, badly wounded, and branded a traitor by conventional Terran wisdom that said no one could survive the Gool brain probe. No one, that is, except a brainwashed puppet deliberately allowed to survive to serve the Goos as a spy. But he must survive Earth's attempts to kill him - because no matter how much his fellow humans want him dead, he knows that he is the only one who can lead them against the Gool and have a chance at victory.
