If we turn to the illustrations generally found in books on cryptogamic botany, we will probably find figures representn the conjugation of certain fungi, that bear so close a resemblance to these mother-cells, that I am tempted to regard the latter as the sexual organs of the fungi found on the wings of certain butter ies.
