Older works in Indian anthropology essentially were restricted to compilation and descriptive studies of biological and sociological parameters. The authors give an overview of existing studies of this type and add results of their own extensive studies. They however move on to the application of modern methods of anthropology with the aim towards the analysis of causes, and the understanding of the population biology. The authors made a big step toward this goal.
