Book Description
The land of Cy has lived in peace for over a thousand years. But tales of old speak of an evil rising. The young brothers were about to learn the secrets of their land, their enemies and themselves. The power of the Cy-cere that burned in their veins had been dormant for a long time. Now was the time for it to do its work. A heroic band of travelers has set off in a different direction to try and stop the Sevendon from taking over. As uniquely powerful as they are, it would not be enough to stop him on their own. The strength of the brotherhood is about to be tested in this creative, fast-paced adventure.

The Trial of the Templars in Cyprus
Author: Anne Gilmour-Bryson
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004474463
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 538
Book Description
This major study includes a translation of all testimony heard during the Templar trial in Cyprus in 1310 or 1311. The trial is of immense importance to the study of the history of the order because of the large number of Templar witnesses, seventy-six, many of high rank, and the ancillary testimony of fifty-six noblemen, burghers, and members, of the regular and secular clergy. What makes the trial especially significant is that torture appears not to have been used, allowing witnesses to give their opinion of the order free of the usual constraint. A large amount of testimony omitted from the Latin edition appears here for the first time. Witnesses are cross-referenced to other Templar trials, or to Cypriot notarial documents. The work is completed by photographs, maps, an exhaustive index, lists of witnesses, and bibliography.

When Cy Hammond loses his girlfriend and then his custom motorcycle shop, he needs a fresh start. He sets his sights on Coral Canyon, because the majority of his family is there now. When he attends a tree-lighting ceremony at Whiskey Mountain Lodge, he's unprepared for the attraction between him and a certain blonde...who's tried to run him over before. Patsy Foxhill didn't mean to nearly hit Cy the day she met him at her family orchard. The land had been in her family for generations, and her sister's mismanagement of it caused them to have to sell some of the land. She was distressed. She also hasn't forgotten about Cy Hammond. So when he asks her out over the speaker system at the lodge, Patsy can only say one thing. Yes. As they start to spend more time together, she realizes Cy has a bit of a beastly streak, but as she truly gets to know the cowboy billionaire behind the beast, she realizes what a good heart he has. Can Patsy's faith in Cy rejuvenate his trust in women? Or will he let everyone down...including himself?

Britain and the Cyprus Crisis of 1974
Author: John Burke
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351995413
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
This book examines the ideological and socio-political discourses shaping the remembrance and representation of Britain and the Cyprus conflict of 1974 within Greek Cypriot society. By combining the official with the popular and drawing on an extensive range of oral history interviews, this monograph shows that a suspicion born out of Britain’s long (neo-)colonial connection to Cyprus has come to frame the image and understanding of British actions associated with the events, and lasting consequences, of 1974. Indeed, with the island of Cyprus still divided, and the requirement to remember a national imperative, this book has a direct contemporary relevance. However, within the existent literature, while much has been written about the political roots of the Cyprus conflict, no study has yet sought to systematically analyse and understand the influences shaping the history and memory of British actions on Cyprus in 1974. One defined by the existence of 'partitionist' conspiracies, collusive accusations and a series of memory distortions which continue to resonate strongly irrespective of the evidence that is now available. As such, by analysing the influences shaping the image of Britain in 1974, one can begin to understand in ever greater detail the Anglo–Greek Cypriot relationship in a modern context.

The Cyprus Frenzy of 1878 and the British Press
Author: Marinos Pourgouris
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1498576613
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 233
Book Description
In June of 1878, the British Empire acquired the small Mediterranean island of Cyprus, after a secret agreement with the Ottoman Empire. The occupation of Cyprus was officially announced by the British government about a month later and what followed was an unprecedented mania with the island, which manifested itself through the publication of dozens of books and articles, the composition of poems, novels, and music pieces, the staging of operas and ballets, the appearance of dozens of advertisements in newspapers, the dispatch of special correspondents to the island, the announcement of forthcoming tours, etc. This book examines the “Cyprus Frenzy” of 1878 and the way it was expressed in both major and provincial newspapers in Victorian Britain. It follows the six main special correspondents who were commissioned to cover the occupation and who traveled to the island for that purpose: Archibald Forbes (The Daily News), St. Leger Algernon Herbert (The Times), John Augustus O’Shea (The London Evening Standard), Edward Henry Vizetelly (The Glasgow Herald), Samuel Pasfield Oliver (The Illustrated London News), and Hepworth Dixon (for several provincial newspapers). What is pertinent in the investigation of Victorian journalistic practices is the relationship between these correspondents and the military establishment, which was tasked with the duty of forming the first British government on the island. In this context, General Garnet Wolseley, who served as the island’s first High Commissioner, and his famous clique of associates are central characters in the story of Cyprus’ colonization. The book further considers the role of advertisements in propagating colonial discourse and it examines “Letters to the Editor,” published in major newspapers of the time, as a tool in the investigation of the Victorian readers’ reception and response to the occupation. By concentrating on the history of a very particular event—the British occupation of Cyprus in 1878—this book aspires to scrutinize colonial practices through a close examination of the mechanisms that they put in motion, the networks they utilize, and the fantasies they stir.
