Stewart, by Mr. Hermon Eldredge in behalf of the editors and departmental officials as a testimony of their appreciation of the untiring zeal with which he has prosecuted the manifold and arduous duties connected with the building of this new denominational home; and a Similar floral greeting was given Mr. Stewart by the various departments and employees of the Association. Rev. D. G. Pleasant directed the music during the day. The Special music furnished by Mr. Meredith Stewart and Miss Elizabeth Banta, and by the orchestra of the Piqua Christian Church was of an exceptionally high quality and deeply appreciated. Book Description
Excerpt from Winona Echoes: Notable Addresses Delivered at the Thirty-Second Annual Bible Conference, Winona Lake, Indiana, August, 1926 Infinite and ever-blessed Son of the Most High God as in the days of Thy flesh they beheld Thy glory, as of the only Begotten of the Father, so give us in these holy hours that clearness of spiritual vision that shall make real indeed Thy presence here, full of grace and truth. Thy disciples of other days found their hearts burning within them as Thou didst walk with them along the road. 0' Thou invisible yet mighty and ever-glorious Christ, come up with us to this annual feast and walk with us in and out of these temples of God and His groves round about, and then, indeed, we shall know what it is to have our vision clarified, our spiritual life quickened, and our hearts to burn within us, and we shall be in tune with the infinite as we walk together, each one, his Lord and himself. To Thee, O Holy Spirit, we pray that every speaker may be touched with the divine unction. May the Word of the living God be honored. May there be no uncertain note, but may the essential doctrines of our most holy and precious Faith become vitalized afresh with new and living significance until we see that apart from them every creed of every kind is a weak and worthless reed for the soul to lean upon, and there is no place for faith and no ground for hope. To be saved by Christ Jesus, to believe in Christ Jesus, is much; but to be in Christ Jesus--what can it mean? Surely it is the expression of the greatest nearness to God of which language is capable! The whole sentence, perhaps, may be paraphrased: Placed in a condition of perfect rest, safety, and enjoyment, so near God as to know Him, not as His far-off subjects may, but as the sons of His house, the members of His family. The man who is in this position and knows it, is a delightful person to meet; he is pleasant in manner, he is not tired or hurried or depressed or murmuring. He is seated at home in his own sphere and enjoying it. Hence, with every want supplied, in touch with all-love and all-wisdom, he is naturally utterly unselfish (no praise to him), and is full of strength and courage to fight the good fight, to finish his course, and to keep the faith the warfare, the walk, the witness of the Christian man (2 Tim. iv. 7). But the secret of it all, the source of his strength and untiring zeal, is found in his being seated together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. No murmur is ever heard here, SSnnursin heavenly no doubts are possible here--no dis-p'aces-cords of earth's purblind reasonings. The eye is opened, and the ears; and, the tongue has learned to speak the language of Heaven, so that it calls bitter, sweet; and pain, joy; and all ill, good, --so it be His sweet will. Such, then, is the twofold life of God's child. child, at home now with God in Christ in Heavenly Places, in perfect happiness while fighting the battles of the Lord, or standing at His door and waiting, or treading a lonely path across a wilderness just as it pleases Him. So far we..

Book Description
Excerpt from The Hiding Place: Or the Sinner Found in Christ There are, in these days, frequently issulng from the press, contributions to the science of religion, upon a great variety of topics, more or less intimately connected with the necessity and importance of vital piety. This is a hopeful sign of the times, and if a wise use be made of such books by professing christians, there cannot fail, ere long, to; be an extensive revival of religion in the land. Nor is it the least encouraging element in this state of things, that the publications referred to unite in giving homage to the Bible, as the divine source of truth' and the only rule of faith and manners.' Until recently, there were comparatively few modern books that. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Verily, Verily: The Amens of Christ Proceeding with his illustrations, Jesus shows that the law is tending to fulfilment when an inferior or temporary expression of the Divine will is replaced by a higher expression of it. The injunction to give a writing of divorcement was subordinate to the higher law that forbade the putting away of the wife; and by parity of reason all that was temporary and special in the command ments given to the Israelites had to be superseded by that higher expression of the will of God which Christ came to give. The Jews who flattered themselves that they were righteous because they had not forsworn themselves, were to learn that the use of oaths was itself Offensive to God. A Divine interpreter of the law is come among them, and he shows them that they have constantly misapprehended its scope. The Sermon on the Mount is an inspired commentary on the law, revealing its length and breadth, and showing that nothing less than [absolute perfection is required of those who would be called the children of God. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father. Who is in heaven is perfect. At a later period we find our Lord varying the words of our text thus: Heaven and earth may pass away; my words shall not pass away. The law passes over into the words of Christ these are the final and complete expression of the Father's will, the new version of the Divine code. The law thus embodied is an essential part of the Gospel. It is only as we know the will of God that we know God; his character expresses itself in his requirements; and if any man turns his back on the law, or gives it the cold shoulder, he is so far turned away from God. A thing this to be considered by many who seem to have little solicitude for the doing of God's will, many to whom the commandments are grievous, and whose Bible is limited to the promises. I never knew you is what the Judge' will say to them; had they known him he would have acknowledged them.
