Book Description
Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 1: January 1, 1895 I have modified the canula and attachment of the Potain aspirator bv enlarging the lumen to permit the easy passage of No. 3 drainage tubing. I have had the tube of the canula constructed of platinum. It may thus be used with the positive pole and I have added a second stop-cock, which renders it independent of the reservoir. As the use of chemical solutions corrodes metal parts, I employ for injection a second bottle, with tubes of glass leading to and from it. I have also furnished it with a third tube to facilitate the introduction of the solution. Provision is also made for emptying the sac after treatment without polluting the contents of reservoir. Book Description
Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 2: July, 1895 Dr. A. H. Wright advised a minimum amount of tampering with the cervix after labor. Most cases Of septic trouble came from a dirty finger. For perineal tears he had found nothing better than the ordinary darning needle. Dr. Temple preferred to have the patient on the back when stitch ing up, and liked a long, curved needle, so as to take in the bite the retracted muscles. Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 7: March, 1898 IN this short paper I shall limit myself to a discussion of the cardiac weakness and dilatation which result from senile changes or rather from those conditions and influences which affect patients in the latter half of life. Balfour has referred to the fact that the heart is one of the organs which under normal conditions is least affected by old age. The liver and kidneys may undergo senile atrophy When the heart may present little change other than a slight increase in the thickness of the wall of the left ventricle. Book Description
Excerpt from The Canadian Medical Review, Vol. 2: October, 1895 On laryngoscopic examination, a round, somewhat lobulated white tumor about the size of a hen's egg was seen at the base of the tongue and behind the epiglottis, almost filling the oropharynx and covering the larynx. Its location and appearance is very well shown in Fig. 2. The mass was elastic and freely movable, and being attached by a rather long and narrow pedicle, it came well up into the back part of the oral cavity during deglutition.
