For a number of years he wandered from land to land, spending part of the time in the United States. Returning to England, he devoted his time to the writing of poems, novels, stories, and a few plays. In 1912 he won the Edmond de Polignac prize for his "Everlasting Mercy." Since that time, he has enjoyed the success and popularity which has so long been denied him.
