The Bichon Frise is a small breed of dog that is part of the 'Bichon' typing. The 'Bichon' typing is believed to have gotten its name from the French word 'Barbichon' which translates to 'small poodle.' The breed is a member of the 'Non-Sporting Group' of dog breeds in the United States and a member of the 'Toy Dog Group' in the United Kingdom. The Bichon Frise descends from the Barbet, Water Spaniels and the Poodle.
