Greater psychological well-being may also encourage employees to be more productive and take greater initiative at work. It also raises a caution against providing too much of autonomy to employees as that may actually lower their commitment. The relation between individual and organization was explored by examining the association between perceived organizational support (POS), components of psychological well-being (PWB) and organizational commitment (OC). 513 managers working in two large Indian manufacturing organizations were administered standardized measures of POS, PWB, and OC. POS was significantly associated with five out of six components of PWB and all four components of OC. PWB was found to partially mediate between POS and affective commitment and completely mediate between POS and Low Alternatives. Autonomy emerged as the common negative predictor of all four components of commitment.
