Excerpt from The Annual Monitor for 1847: Or Obituary of the Members of the Society of Friends in Great Britain and Ireland, for the Year 1846 We have again to meet the Subscribers to the Annual Monitor, and to present to them the report of the deaths which have taken place among the Members of our Society, during the year ending 30th of 9th month, 1846. It will be seen by the comparative table of the mortality at different ages, during the last three years, within which period we feel great confidence in the accuracy of our returns, that the total number of deaths during each year does not materially vary; the average annual number being 351, and the highest number in the series being 357. The average age attained by the parties whose deaths have been reported during the same triennial period, is 50 years and 13 days. This is a very high average age, as compared with that of the population of England and Wales, as obtained from the reports of the Registrar-General for four years; viz, from 1837 to 1841.
