Auszug: ...dann wird aber eben dasjenige in sie hineingelegt, was den Begriff der Substanz ausmacht, und was in dem Begriff der ursprunglichen Einheit als solchen noch nicht zu finden ist. Es bleibt also immer dabei, dass man den Begriff der noch undifferenzierten Einheit zunachst um den Begriff der Substanz erweitern muss, um ihn mit dem letzteren identifizieren zu konnen. Geht man umgekehrt von dem Begriff der Substanz aus, so hat man eine solche Begriffserweiterung nicht notig, um zu dem der einfachen, noch indifferenzierten Einheit zu gelangen; denn die Substanz ist selbst die einfache, ungesonderte und darum an und fur sich essenzlose Einheit. Lasst man sie in die essentielle Sonderung eintreten, so wird es erklarlich, dass dasjenige einfach Eine, was dem essentiellen Gegensatz subsistiert, auch das ewige Einheitsband dieses Gegensatzes bildet. Die essentiellen Attributestehen in ursprunglicher Einheit eben darum, weil sie Attribute der einfach einen Substanz sind, welche in ihnen in die essentielle Sonderung ewig eingetreten ist. Weil sie Attribute der einfach einen Substanz sind, mussen auch die beiden Seiten der aus ihnen entspringenden Tatigkeit immer in unaufloslicher funktioneller Einheit stehen. So ist die Substanz die Einheit der essentiellen Attribute, und diese bilden die innere essentielle Mannigfaltigkeit der subsistentiell einfachen Substanz (K. 540). Die Substanz hat keine Essenz als in ihren Attributen, die doppelseitige Essenz keine Subsistenz als in der Substanz.
