Book Description
This study examines the stock market integration among major stock markets of emerging Asia-Pacific economies, viz. India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China, and Indonesia. The Johansen and Juselius multivariate cointegration test, Granger causality/Block exogeneity Wald test based on the vector error correction model (VECM) approach, and variance decomposition analysis were used to investigate the dynamic linkages between markets. Cointegration test confirmed a well-defined long-run equilibrium relationship among the major stock markets, implying that there exists a common force, such as arbitrage activity, which brings these stock markets together in the long run. The results of Granger causality/Block exogeneity Wald test based on VECM and variance decomposition analysis revealed the stock market interdependencies and dynamic interactions among the selected emerging Asia-Pacific economies. This result implies that investors can gain feasible benefits from international portfolio diversification in the short run. On the whole, the study results suggest that although long-term diversification benefits from exposure to these markets might be limited, short-run benefits might exist due to substantial transitory fluctuations.

Book Description
This volume of "International Finance Review" focuses on the Asia-Pacific financial markets. A total of 22 original papers, not published elsewhere, have been selected from a competitive field. These papers utilize a variety of methods, including theoretical, empirical and qualitative to highlight a range of issues across the region. Several papers offer combinations of these different categories and among the empirical papers, there are a wide variety of datasets analyzed. While China does play a significant part in the analysis of five of the papers in this volume (this is to be expected given its importance in the region), a host of other countries are also considered. This ensures the volume is truly international in its scope. These papers each serve to contribute to the knowledge on a particular issue related to the financial markets within this region and for this volume, three main issues have been identified: integration, innovation and challenges. Articles are contributed by experts in their fields. It is truly international in scope.

Book Description
This paper investigates the nature of the stock market linkages in the advanced Asia-Pacific stock markets of Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore with the U.S and the information leadership of the U.S. and Japan in the region since the early 1990s. It has been found that both the contemporaneous return and volatility linkages were significant and tended to be more intense after the 1997 Asian crisis period. However, the investigation of the dynamic information spillover effects in terms of returns, volatility and trading volume from the U.S. and Japan did not produce such time-varying influence. In general, significant dynamic information spillover effects from the U.S. were found in all the Asia-Pacific markets, but the Japanese information flows were relatively weak and the effects were country specific.

Book Description
This research paper investigates the stock market movements and linkages between the Asian emerging markets (China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand) and two developed markets (i.e. USA and Japan). This study employs the statistical application of descriptive statistics, unit root test, correlation and pairwise granger causality test. The study used daily data from 01st January, 2005 to 31st December, 2014, to examine both short-run (year wise) and long-run (whole study period) movements and linkages between Asian emerging stock markets and two developed stock markets. The presence of short-run relationship and absence of a strong long-run relationship, among these markets, were found. The short run (year wise) and long run movements and linkages have important implications for investors, risk managers and regulators. It is found that Indian stock market experienced less movements with developed markets (USA and JAPAN). This study also suggested that India's stock market is largely protected from global events i.e., 2007-2008. The sample stock markets of these eight countries of Asian emerging markets provide attractive diversification opportunities, for international portfolio investors during the long run period. All the eight countries of Asian emerging markets provide attractive diversification opportunities for international portfolio investors, over a long period.

Book Description
This paper examines the stock market linkages within the Asia-Pacific region and between Asian markets and the US market from January 2000 to June 2010 employing dynamic conditional correlation GARCH model. Our results show that there exist very high correlations among the stock markets during the 2008 financial crisis. Therefore, consistent with the finding in literature, there are no diversification benefits during the financial crisis. However, our results show that there are still substantial opportunities for global investors to improve the risk-return performance between China and other markets during the sample period. In addition, we find evidence that the US market significantly affects the stock markets in Asia-Pacific region. Using T-GARCH model, there is a strong evidence of an asymmetric effect on conditional variance except stock markets in China and Malaysia.
