Lost Mound Refuge supports endangered Higginsii Pearly Mussel (Lampsilis higginsii) and the threatened Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus). The Service has negotiated a Cooperative Agreement with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for joint management of the area.
