Book Description
In this well informed, insightful and comprehensive study, Mario Fernando critically explores the complex and multiform interplay of management theory and practice, personal biographies, theologies of faith and cultural dynamics in order to elaborate and advance a coherent theory of spiritual leadership. George Gotsis and Zoe Kortezi, Entrepreneurship and Innovation In this example of science and theory meeting emerging reality, Mario Fernando delves into the complex dimensions of the interplay of the science of management, theologies of faith, and the dynamics of culture to first understand and then construct and advance a theory of spiritual leadership. With real world insights and reflections from himself and others, he addresses theory to practice implications and cautions against creating just another fad. This insightful and thought-provoking book provides a timely read and focus for reflection for organizational leaders concerned with success in the new age economy and global society, and who seek a path to understand their own personal and pragmatic spiritual leadership grounding. Gary D. Geroy, Colorado State University, US The book will be an important contribution to the literature and will certainly open up some new avenues of research and inquiry. Ralph L. Piedmont, Loyola College in Maryland, US Although interest in workplace spirituality continues to soar, the literature and empirical research on non-Western, non-Christian spirituality in entrepreneurship and leadership is almost non-existent. Mario Fernando s unique study fills the gap in the literature, exploring cross-cultural and religious distinctions of the contemporary meaning and enactment of spirituality in organizations. Case studies of thirteen influential, spiritually motivated Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim entrepreneurs are used to explore the significant impact of religion upon the management and leadership of an organization. The book concludes that although each entrepreneur s outward practice of spiritual leadership conformed to personal religious beliefs, these practices had two common aims: a connection with self, others and/or an ultimate reality, and a need to direct and motivate self and/or others to develop an organizational culture founded on a sense of shared community. This unique and fascinating work will strongly appeal to entrepreneurship, leadership and business and management researchers and scholars with a particular interest in the interplay between entrepreneurship and spiritual leadership.

Book Description
Over the past few decades there has been considerable transformation of the organisational arrangements for public service provision and advocacy across most Western democracies, not least in Australia. Waves of ideologically driven reforms have reshaped organisations, ways of organising and systems, particularly those in the third sector. Each wave has produced specific synergies and contradictions that contribute to the need for further reshaping. As artefacts, local organisations, ways of organising and systems hold historic meaning that can guide practitioners as they seek to understand past change, transverse existing landscapes, question the utility and soundness of current meaning, and seek to create new landscapes that respond to different value-sets. The studies present here were undertaken by the authors over two decades in partnership with local practitioners to respond to their expressed need for new maps and compasses to understand and transverse the rapidly changing organisational landscapes in which they practice. The authors draw on practitioners' lived experiences of micro-change in particular sites to construct synthesised stories, develop organisational typologies, articulate principles and logics of organising, and construct paradigmatic maps.

Book Description
Leaders nowadays need to know, learn, and apply the concept of qalb leadership where it has been taught by the Prophet Muhammad as well as explained by Islamic scholars. The comparison with other mindful leadership concepts is required to provide solutions and options in leadership for better outcomes and spiritual awareness. It is found that leadership literature, in general, is unable to generate an understanding of a leadership concept that is both intellectually compelling and emotionally satisfying. As for qalb leadership, it focuses on the spirituality of leadership that can aid in facing unpredictable manners and provide better outcomes for followers. Research on Islamic leadership and spirituality may pave the way for better leadership practices in the future. The Role of Islamic Spirituality in the Management and Leadership Process will elaborate the spirituality and qalb in human life and leadership along with providing a discussion on the role and function of qalb in the overall leadership process. Through spirituality, human interdependence, creativity, and social justice can be created and molded. This type of leadership enables transformation in a natural way without denying basic human nature and imparts balance to both the outer and inner needs of humans. With the discussion of four cardinal virtues of Al-Ghazali, leaders can solve many problems that emerge in their organizations. This book is ideal for managers, executives, theologians, professionals, researchers, academicians, and students who are interested in how Islamic spirituality plays a role in leadership.
