Book Description
Spiritual Light: Universal Teachings from the Highest Spirit Realms. "A fascinating account of what is possible for humans as multi-dimensional beings." -- Deepak Chopra. These are the teachings of a group of Illumined Souls of the most advanced wisdom and spirituality, yet humble, who seek to spiritualize and unite humanity, to awaken people to the many spiritual realities of life, and to thereby avoid the misery and havoc we create on earth. In Spiritual Light--their complete official teachings--these souls offer us their collective knowledge of truth, of spiritual laws, and of a way of life to bring peace and harmony to us all. They include many of the greatest prophets, enlightened beings, and noble souls this world has known. Through this book they are working to build the brother-and-sisterhood of all people; they teach that each of us is forever connected with all human beings and with our creator. These beautiful and inspiring teachings are extraordinarily pure, for these times, and given directly by the most spiritually advanced beings, which is extremely rare. The teachings are not a religion but are presented for all people, regardless of their beliefs, in a down-to-earth, clear, and simple way. They address truth, spiritual laws, love, responsibility, spiritual progress, psychic phenomena, life on earth and in the spirit realms, and many related subjects. The Illumined Souls shared and helped to compose these extensive teachings through 25 years of collaboration, using the most highly spiritual and skilled mediums available. They ask us to accept only what our inner being tells us is true and our reason completely embraces. Presented by: The Universal Spiritual Brother&Sisterhood. Book Description
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints renounced the practice of plural marriage in 1890. In the mid- to late nineteenth century, however--the heyday of Mormon polygamy--as many as three out of every ten Mormon women became polygamous wives. Paula Kelly Harline delves deep into the diaries and autobiographies of twenty-nine such women, providing a rare window into the lives they led and revealing their views and experiences of polygamy, including their well-founded belief that their domestic contributions would help to build a foundation for generations of future Mormons. Polygamous wives were participants in a controversial and very public religious practice that violated most nineteenth-century social and religious rules of a monogamous America. Harline considers the questions: Were these women content with their sacrifice? Did the benefits of polygamous marriage for the Mormons outweigh the human toll it required and the embarrassment it continues to bring? Polygamous wives faced daunting challenges not only imposed by the wider society but within the home, yet those whose writings Harline explores give voice to far more than unhappiness and discontent. The personal writings of these women, all married to different husbands, are the heart of this remarkable book--they paint a vivid and sometimes disturbing picture of an all but vanished and still controversial way of life.

Book Description
In 1635, as directed by her confessor so that he might understand "the state of her soul," Margaret Van Noort, a lay sister of the royal convent of Discalced Carmelite nuns in Brussels, composed her spiritual autobiography. This text was followed by two diaries in 1636 and 1637 recording the workings of her inner life and relation to God, and reflecting the cosmopolitan Catholic tradition of her homeland. Now gathered in this volume, these works illustrate Margaret's development from a troubled young lay sister into a woman of spiritual experience and authority.

Book Description
In an unprecedented comparison of two of the most important female authors of the nineteenth century, Azelina Flint foregrounds the influence of the religious communities that shaped Louisa May Alcott’s and Christina Rossetti’s visions of female creativity. In the early stages of the authors’ careers, their artistic developments were associated with their patrilineal connections to two artistic movements that shaped the course of American and British history: the Transcendentalists and Pre-Raphaelites. Flint uncovers the authors’ rejections of the individualistic outlooks of these movements, demonstrating that Alcott and Rossetti affiliated themselves with their mothers and sisters’ religious faith. Applying the methodological framework of women’s mysticism, Flint reveals that Alcott’s and Rossetti’s religious beliefs were shaped by the devotional practices and life-writing texts of their matrilineal communities. Here, the authors’ iconic portrayals of female artists are examined in light of the examples of their mothers and sisters for the first time. Flint recovers a number of unpublished life-writings, including commonplace albums and juvenile newspapers, introducing readers to early versions of the authors’ iconic works. These recovered texts indicate that Alcott and Rossetti portrayed the female artist as a mouthpiece for a wider community of women committed to social justice and divine communion. By drawing attention to the parallels in the authors’ familial affiliations and religious beliefs, Flint recuperates a tradition of nineteenth-century women’s mysticism that departs from the individualistic models of male literary traditions to locate female empowerment in gynocentric relationships dedicated to achieving a shared revelation of God.
