Book Description
This book provides a good opportunity for software engineering practitioners and researchers to get in sync with the current state-of-the-art and future trends in component-based embedded software research. The book is based on a selective compilation of papers that cover the complete component-based embedded software spectrum, ranging from methodology to tools. Methodology aspects covered by the book include functional and non-functional specification, validation, verification, and component architecture. As tools are a critical success factor in the transfer from academia-generated knowledge to industry-ready technology, an important part of the book is devoted to tools. This state-of-the-art survey contains 16 carefully selected papers organised in topical sections on specification and verification, component compatibility, component architectures, implementation and tool support, as well as non-functional properties.

Book Description
Here's a complete guide to building reliable component-based software systems. Written by world-renowned experts in the component-based software engineering field, this unique resource helps you manage complex software through the development, evaluation and integration of software components. You quickly develop a keen awareness of the benefits and risks to be considered when developing reliable systems using components. A strong software engineering perspective helps you gain a better understanding of software component design, to build systems with stronger requirements, and avoid typical errors throughout the process, leading to improved quality and time to market. From component definition, standards, objects and frameworks, to organizational development and support of the component-based life cycle, the book describes aspects of systems development using components and component development. It focuses on dependable and real-time systems, employing case studies from the process automation industry, software production, electronic consumer equipment and office software development.

Book Description
The focus in development methodologies of large and complex software systems has switched in the last two decades from functional issues to structural issues; this holds for both the object-oriented and the more recent component-based software engineering paradigms. Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design for quite a long time. However, their application to the development of large systems requires more emphasis on specification, modeling and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. This state-of-the-art survey presents the outcome of the 9th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, held in Graz, Austria, in November/December 2010. The volume contains 20 revised contributions submitted after the symposium by speakers from each of the following European IST projects: the FP7-IST project AVANTSSAR on automated validation of trust and security of service-oriented architectures; the FP7-IST project DEPLOY on industrial deployment of advanced system engineering methods for high productivity and dependability; the ESF-COST Action IC0701 on formal verification of object-oriented software; the FP7-IST project HATS on highly adaptable and trustworthy software using formal models; the FP7-SST project INESS on an integrated European railway signalling system; the FP7-IST project MADES on a model-driven approach to improve the current practice in the development of embedded systems; the FP7-IST project MOGENTES on model-based generation of tests for dependable embedded systems; as well as the FP7-IST project MULTIFORM on integrated multi-formalism tool support for the design of networked embedded control systems.

Book Description
This volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science contains the proceedings of the rd 3 Working Conference on Component Deployment (CD 2005), which took place from 28 to 29, November 2005 in Grenoble, France, and co-located with Middleware 2005. CD 2005 is the third international conference in the series, the first two being held in Berlin and Edinburgh in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The proceedings of both these conferences were also published by Springer in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series and may be found in volumes 2370 and 3083. Component deployment addresses the tasks that need to be performed after components have been developed and addresses questions such as: • What do we do with components after they have been built? • How do we deploy them into their execution environment? • How can we evolve them once they have been deployed? CD 2005 brought together researchers and practitioners with the goal of deve- ping a better understanding of how deployment takes place in the wider context. The Program Committee selected 15 papers (12 long papers, three short papers) out of 29 submissions. All submissions were reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Papers were selected based on originality, quality, soundness and relevance to the workshop.
