Author: Peter Kinderman
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030243869
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 310
Book Description
A Manifesto for Mental Health presents a radically new and distinctive outlook that critically examines the dominant ‘disease-model’ of mental health care. Incorporating the latest findings from both biological neuroscience and research into the social determinants of psychological problems, Peter Kinderman offers a contemporary, biopsychosocial, alternative. He warns that the way we care for people with mental health problems is creating a hidden human rights emergency and he proposes a new vision for the future of health organisations across the globe. The book highlights persuasive evidence that our mental health and wellbeing depend largely on the society in which we live, on the things happen to us, and on how we learn to make sense of and respond to those events. Kinderman proposes a rejection of invalid diagnostic labels, practical help rather than medication, and a recognition that distress is usually an understandable human response to life's challenges. Offering a serious critique of establishment thinking, A Manifesto for Mental Health provides a well-crafted demonstration of how, with scientific rigour and empathy, a revolution in mental health care is not only highly desirable, it is also entirely achievable.

The Magnificence of the 3

Pages : 295
Book Description
Hi. If you are one to have given up wondering if the Tree of Knowledge, Tree of Life, Garden of Eden, and the Ark of the Testimony/Covenant were real or just fancy stories for children and the simple-minded, wonder no more. Our scientists found them and their identities are revealed here in full. There are three main characters in book: God, the invisible Designer God's First-born, the invisible Atom God's Helpers, the invisible Emotions. I ran across God's treasures accidentally while following the tracts of the ATOM that God left in the biblical record parabolically. God was fully aware of the atom when He declared in Genesis 1: 1 that "He created the heavens and earth." The "THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THE 3" title was deducted from a quote attributed to Nikola Tesla, a mechanical and electrical genius of an engineer who said: "If you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6, and 9, then you would have the key to the universe". I am claiming that I found Tesla's magnificence of the 3, and it was a reference to the ATOM and its three particles: (1) positive proton (Good), (2) negative electron (Evil), and (3), neutral neutron (God). When I began researching for project, I was not looking for these biblical icons. Then one day, the ATOM popped up on my news feed and while admiring its mechanics, I immediately saw the parallel of its scientific structure, to the spiritual structure of the relationship God urged us to have with Him. Then I searched for the Atom in Biblical record and found it. This was unexpected but the claims are presented for your review. Once I saw the parallel, God's parabolic stories opened up for me. For example, how could Eve talk to a reptile? How could the devil turn the perfect humans against their Master on the first try? Why are innocent children born in sin if man was created perfect? Why were Abraham's descendants designated to be enslaved before Abraham had a son? If man was born to be immortal in the flesh, why was there a Tree of Life in the Garden? Who was Cain's wife and what was the mark God gave him? Was there a scientific meaning to the changes in diet after the flood? What were the meanings of the curse and blessing given by Noah to his three sons? Why would a loving, forgiving, and merciful God punish up to three and four generations of innocent children for the sins of the fathers? Who were the sons of gods and daughters of men? If the crucifixion was the truth, why isn't there any record of it except the New Testament? These are my personal questions that are dealt with in this book and many others. Book is compact with foundational information that better people will come along and expand upon for your benefit. Examples of scientific subjects involved are the atom, emotions, the Big Bang theory, the social brain hypothesis, the triune brain, neurons, evolution, and new scientific subjects such as the wood wide web, and epigenetics. In case you wonder about God's Omnipresence. Wonder no more as the secret is in the ATOM. Equip yourself properly as a Priest beginning with this book.

Breakpoint: Why the Web will Implode, Search will be Obsolete, and Everything Else you Need to Know about Technology is in Your Brain
Author: Jeff Stibel
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
ISBN: 1137360976
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
What can the human brain and its relationship to the internet tell us about our society, our technologies, and our businesses? A lot, as it turns out. The internet today is a virtual replica of the brain, and the networks that leverage it grow and collapse in ways that are easily predictable if you understand the brain and other biological networks. We're living in the midst of a networking revolution. All of the major technology innovations of the 21st century – social networking, cloud computing, search engines, and crowdsourcing, to name a few – leverage the internet and are thus bound by the rules of networks. We've seen the exponential growth of these technologies, and they've led to a more efficient and tightly connected world. But what many people don't realize is that all networks eventually reach a breakpoint and collapse. This happens in the brain, it happens in nature, it happened to MySpace, and it will happen to Facebook and Google. It is critical to understand where the breakpoint is in the networks you use in order to achieve optimum success. Navigating the world of new technologies today can be like walking through a minefield unless you know the path. Imagine what you could do with a roadmap for where things are headed? In this fascinating look at the future of business and technology, neuroscientist and entrepreneur Jeff Stibel shows how the brain can act as a guide to understanding the future of the internet and the constellation of businesses and technologies that run on it. He'll show how leaders like Marissa Mayer are using artificial intelligence to literally remake Yahoo! and how startups like oDesk and Kickstarter are using crowdsourcing, the next wave of revolutionary technology, to create something much larger and "smarter" than the sum of their parts. Stibel offers a fresh perspective about the future of business and technology in a candid and engaging manner.

Correlated neuronal activity and its relationship to coding, dynamics and network architecture
Author: Tatjana Tchumatchenko
Publisher: Frontiers E-books
ISBN: 2889193578
Category : Brain function
Languages : en
Pages : 237
Book Description
Correlated activity in populations of neurons has been observed in many brain regions and plays a central role in cortical coding, attention, and network dynamics. Accurately quantifying neuronal correlations presents several difficulties. For example, despite recent advances in multicellular recording techniques, the number of neurons from which spiking activity can be simultaneously recorded remains orders magnitude smaller than the size of local networks. In addition, there is a lack of consensus on the distribution of pairwise spike cross correlations obtained in extracellular multi-unit recordings. These challenges highlight the need for theoretical and computational approaches to understand how correlations emerge and to decipher their functional role in the brain.

The Single-Neuron Theory
Author: Steven Sevush
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319337084
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 317
Book Description
This book presents an engaging account of a provocative new theory which explores how our brain generates conscious experience and where this occurs. It suggests that conscious experience happens not at the whole brain level but at the level of individual nerve cells. The notion that the brain as a whole is sentient is an illusion created by the exquisite organization of the individually conscious neurons. Despite appearances to the contrary, conscious behavior that seems to be the product of a single macroscopic mind is actually the integrated output of a chorus of microscopic minds, each associated with an individual neuron. The result is a theory that revolutionizes our conception of who and what we are.
