Book Description
This book lays out the theoretical groundwork for personalized search and reputation management, both on the Web and in peer-to-peer and social networks. Representing much of the foundational research in this field, the book develops scalable algorithms that exploit the graphlike properties underlying personalized search and reputation management, and delves into realistic scenarios regarding Web-scale data. Sep Kamvar focuses on eigenvector-based techniques in Web search, introducing a personalized variant of Google's PageRank algorithm, and he outlines algorithms--such as the now-famous quadratic extrapolation technique--that speed up computation, making personalized PageRank feasible. Kamvar suggests that Power Method-related techniques ultimately should be the basis for improving the PageRank algorithm, and he presents algorithms that exploit the convergence behavior of individual components of the PageRank vector. Kamvar then extends the ideas of reputation management and personalized search to distributed networks like peer-to-peer and social networks. He highlights locality and computational considerations related to the structure of the network, and considers such unique issues as malicious peers. He describes the EigenTrust algorithm and applies various PageRank concepts to P2P settings. Discussion chapters summarizing results conclude the book's two main sections. Clear and thorough, this book provides an authoritative look at central innovations in search for all of those interested in the subject.

Book Description
Although the topic of animal personality has recently generated much interest, the role of development is little understood. This collection of papers deals with the development of animal personality. Topics include the roles of genetic effects, maternal effects, social partners, predation and parasitism risk, and environmental complexity in the development of personality, the effects of personality on survival, and the development of collective personality and movement as a driver of personality development. The organisms covered include insects, spiders, fishes, and birds. This volume illustrates the diversity of approaches that have shed light on the development of animal personality in the past several years.

Book Description
VECPAR is a series of international conferences dedicated to the promotion and advancement of all aspects of high-performance computing for computational science, as an industrial technique and academic discipline, extending the fr- tier of both the state of the art and the state of practice. The audience for and participants in VECPAR are seen as researchers in academic departments, g- ernment laboratories and industrial organizations. There is now a permanent website for the series, http://vecpar.fe.up.pt, where the history of the conf- ences is described. ThesixtheditionofVECPARwasthe?rsttimetheconferencewascelebrated outside Porto – at the Universitad Politecnica de Valencia (Spain), June 28–30, 2004. The whole conference programme consisted of 6 invited talks, 61 papers and26posters,outof130contributionsthatwereinitiallysubmitted.Themajor themes were divided into large-scale numerical and non-numerical simulations, parallel and grid computing, biosciences, numerical algorithms, data mining and visualization. This postconference book includes the best 48 papers and 5 invited talks presented during the three days of the conference. The book is organized into 6 chapters, with a prominent position reserved for the invited talks and the Best Student Paper. As a whole it appeals to a wide research community, from those involved in the engineering applications to those interested in the actual details of the hardware or software implementations, in line with what, in these days, tends to be considered as computational science and engineering (CSE).

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Financial Cryptography and Data Security, held at the Accra Beach Hotel and Resort, Barbados, February 23–26, 2009. Financial Cryptography and Data Security (FC) is a well-established int- national forum for research, advanced development, education, exploration and debate regarding information assurance in the context of ?nance and commerce. The conference covers all aspects of securing transactions and systems. The goal of FC is to bring security and cryptography researchers and pr- titioners together with economists, bankers, and policy makers. This year, we assembled a vibrant program featuring 21 peer-reviewed research paper pres- tations, two panels (on the economics of information security and on authen- cation), and a keynote address by David Dagon. Despite a proliferation of security and cryptography venues, FC continues to receive a large number of high-quality submissions. This year, we received 91 submissions(75full-lengthpapers,15shortpapersand1panel).Eachsubmission was reviewed by at least three reviewers. Following a rigorous selection, ranking and discussion process, the Program Committee accepted 20 full-length papers, 1 short paper and 1 panel. The overall acceptance rate was 24%.
