Book Description
Visitors to the North Sea are astonished at the profusion of marine life that exists in this relatively small, box-shaped sea that is bounded by Britain to the west and the shores of northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, I\lorway and the far south-west of Sweden in the east. This book, the first of its kind, includes more than 300 full-colour photographs and black-and-white line drawings. The introduction describes the formation of the North Sea, the habitats and types of animal found there, and the urgent conservation issues of this ecologically diverse area. The core of the book is the field guide section. This contains fascinating species accounts accompanied by identification photographs of nearly 300 species of sea creature, including fishes, molluscs, crustaceans, starfish, sponges and corals.

Book Description
The atlas presents a unique set of abundance data to describe the spatial, depth, size, and temporal distribution of demersal and pelagic fish species over an extensive marine area, together with accounts of their biology. A large number of pictures, graphs and distribution maps illustrate the text. By largely avoiding - or at least explaining - scientific terms and providing extensive references, the book should be useful for both laymen and scientists. The quantitative information on some 200 fish taxa is derived from 72,000 stations fished by research vessels during the period 1977-2013. The area covers the northwest European shelf from west of Ireland to the central Baltic Sea and from Brittany to the Shetlands. Although the surveys extend beyond the shelf edge, only taxa reported at least once in waters less than 200 m are included. Typical deep-water species and typical fresh-water species are excluded. We hope this publication will contribute to gaining a better understanding of the ocean ecosystems.

Book Description
Part I of this book series puts vertebrates (Chordata) of the North Sea, from sea-squirts to lampreys, sharks and rays, bony fishes, seals and whales, in the context of the changing living conditions in this small part of the one big ocean. The book presents a balance between long-established species and immigrants from the subtropics. Aspects of fishing, ecology and aquarium keeping were also included in this work. In addition, the preparation of fish was also addressed. It would be very welcome, if in the future more people would concern themselves with the care and preservation of the wondrous and multifarious inhabitants of the North Sea. For unfortunately, many of the species shown here seem to be largely unknown to a wider public, which is why they hardly seem to have a real lobby in practice. So, we`d better get to know our endemic species, before they become extinct.

Book Description
A heat wave works its way under the sea surface with increasing speed from south to north. The season "winter" obviously did not take place at all in the southern North Sea at the turn of the year from 2019 to 2020... The temperature measurements of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency in Germany speak volumes. Actually, there should be alarm sirens going off all day long... A further indication of the climate catastrophe can be found under the sea surface: namely the shift of the fauna of the English Channel to the north, which is now beginning to establish itself on our coasts in the German Bight. This work takes a closer look at several known and lesser known species of invertebrates and fish and places them in the context of climate change. It provides various convincing arguments against all deniers of the climate catastrophe, which is already subtly announced by the faunal change...
