Excerpt from Report of the Committee of the Overseers of Harvard College, Appointed to Visit the Law School in 1849 The Committee appointed by the Overseers of Harvard University to visit the Law School, performed that service, Nov. '7, 1849. Among their number present on the occasion was Hon. William kent, of New York, who gratified his associates very much by coming a long distance to join in this duty. The attention of the Committee was first directed to the actual condition of the School, and its advantages as a place of legal education. Here there was occasion for lively satisfaction. The number of students was one hundred, assembled from all parts of the Union, and constituting a representation of the Whole country. Their attendance upon the lectures and other exercises, though entirely voluntary, had been full and regular; While their industry, good con duct, and intelligent reception of instruction, had been a source of peculiar pleasure to their professors.
