From the Preface: Employers and employees in North America are following with great interest, developments in the adoption of altered work week systems by numerous industrial and government organizations....The Conference Board in Canada decided to sponsor a symposium in order to shed more light on the extent to which various altered work week schemes are in effect in Canada and the results they have had on absenteeism, productivity, and employee morale....The experiments undertaken by the various organizations represented in this report appear to suggest that favourable results can be expected from the adoption of an altered work week system that is well designed and that takes into consideration the needs of both the workers and the organization.
