Book Description
Africa is a laboratory for managerial and societal innovations built out of pragmatic arrangements. Some African companies offer products and services that go beyond the standard practices of their international counterparts, based on original and inventive managerial characteristics. Such success stories outline a new model of management and innovation for companies in the digital era. The African innovations that have emerged over the past ten years are directly linked to a managerial model that perfectly meets the demands of the digital era. These new organizations indicate that good managerial practices and innovation models also come from the Global South and no longer exclusively from the East Coast of the United States. Understanding these dynamics is of great theoretical and practical interest for the many companies struggling to seize the opportunities for growth in Africa.

Do animals work? Is it possible to work with animals without exploiting them? Might animals even be empowered through work? This provocative collection offers original answers to these questions and allows readers to think about human relationships with domestic animals beyond the well-trodden tropes of domination or animal welfare. To study animal work means to look at animals in new ways and to discover in them unsuspected skills and knowledge that open up new ethical and political horizons.

Book Description
This important work considers the contemporary movement of "writing in the feminine", by examining the work of five women writers from French and English Canada and the dialogue therein with feminist and psychoanalytic theory and theories of ethics. Informing the author's interpretations are the ideas of French theorists Emmanuel Levinas, Paul Ricoeur, Luce Irigaray, and Julia Kristeva, as well as American feminists Kelly Oliver and Jessica Benjamin. Marie Carrière explores the unfolding, complex questions of sexual difference, female subjectivity, and mother-daughter relations. She also uncovers and examines the occasional breakdown of the feminist ethics postulated by Nicole Brossard, France Theoret, Di Brandt, Erin Mouré, and Lola Lemire Tostevin. Carrière views these instances of deviation not as a failure of writing in the feminine, but as an inevitability in the relatively new intellectual terrain of feminist ethics. Writing in the Feminine will be of great interest to scholars of literary theory, women's studies, and Canadian literature in French and English. As a challenging study of the connections between gender and authorship, it will also appeal to those who have a particular interest in women's literature.

Book Description
This collection of essays deals with the multiple aspects of cultural identities in literature from a postcolonial perspective. The questions raised are at the crossroads of Canadian cultural identity as they address gender, language, race, nationalism, and ethnicity, making this book a valuable reference for researchers, scholars, and students who work in the expanding fields of cultural studies, minority or gender studies, and Canadian studies.

Book Description
This bilingual collection illustrates the concept of the 'Warrior of the Imaginary', as defined by Patrick Chamoiseau, in a multi-faceted corpus of texts. Francophone contributions explore the role of the Caribbean writer in works by Chamoiseau, Édouard Glissant, Daniel Maximin, and Joseph Zobel. Essays in English focus not only on familiar writers (Dionne Brand, Edwidge Danticat, Wilson Harris, Jamaica Kincaid, Caryl Phillips, Derek Walcott) but also on less widely studied voices (Robert Antoni, Albert Helman). Other contributions deal with such 'fighting areas' as Afro-Brazilian music, film, and Mutabaruka's militant poetry. The whole testifies to a surprisingly coherent imaginary, one that goes beyond the 'balkanization' of the Caribbean archipelago.

Book Description
Drawing on case studies from France, Germany, and China, this book argues that the dynamic interactions between time and autonomy have fundamentally reshaped the evolution of work. Jens Thoemmes details how time autonomy transitioned from early efforts to reduce working hours to today’s complex debates about managing work time. Initially focused on reclaiming time from employers during the nineteenth century, time autonomy has broadened to encompass how work integrates into overall social time. Beginning in the late 1960s, new tools like flexitime, time-savings accounts, and telecommuting began aligning employee aspirations with production demands, marking a shift towards more flexible work arrangements. Placing work environments from France, Germany, and China in comparative perspective, this book explores the way time autonomy varies in different workplaces and socioeconomic contexts as well as the conditions, opportunities, and risks involved.
