Book Description
The function of the SMED Quick Changeover Setup Combination Worksheet is to visually represent the two concepts of SMED Setup Reduction, which are internal and external time. This form will allow the participants to separate the two components of Quick Changeover. It provides a graphical representation of these elements, allowing the team to isolate each category and focus on reducing the times in a systematic manner. The Setup Combination Worksheet is essential as it provides an objective analysis of the setup of a machine.

Book Description
ReducedEffort® Changeover: The Lean Way to Quickly Reduce Changeover Downtime provides a step-by-step guide for conducting a Kaizen event that empowers the people who do the work to improve how that work is done. Packed with tips, tools, and examples, this practical guide begins with a clear description of the Lean principles underlying the ReducedEffort Changeover system. In addition, it explains how and why reducing the effort always reduces the time of converting a machine, line, or process from one product to another. In this book, you’ll find everything you need to quickly and dramatically reduce the effort and time of any process using the ReducedEffort method. This is not another book about how to do SMED. Like SMED, ReducedEffort Changeover (REC) does reduce changeover time, but REC is not SMED. SMED, Single Minute (or digit) Exchange of Dies, developed by Dr. Shigeo Shingo, has been the process used for many years by countless manufacturing plants to reduce changeover time. The SMED process was used in Toyota to reduce the changeover of a 1,000-ton stamping press from four hours to three minutes. As a Lean-based process, the REC system focuses on reducing the labor, not the time, involved in changing over a machine to work on a different product. With REC, there are no Standard Operation Combination Sheets to fill out and no Problem Identification Sheets to complete, and it does not require the arduous chore of timing every task, as SMED does. Very little capital investment is required with REC. Unlike SMED, it does not require management-approved funding to achieve substantial results. Because REC is not capital-driven, management does not need to drive the process. The operators will drive the process because it reduces their labor. One of the biggest advantages of REC over SMED is that operators will readily accept the process, and more important, they will want to sustain it. The reason for this is quite simple and will become evident when the REC process is defined. REC takes SMED to a new level that is easier and faster both to implement and to deliver sustainable results.

Book Description
Winner of a Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award What can we do to make more people productively useful? Striving to answer that question more than 60 years ago sparked the development of the most powerful training methodology that has impacted U.S. industry -- Training Within Industry (TWI). During World War II, major production increases were demanded by the U.S. military - TWI, which trains supervisors, was developed comprising three separate programs: Job Instruction--how to instruct employees so they can quickly remember to do a job, correctly, safely, and conscientiously Job Methods--how to improve methods for producing greater quantities of quality products in less time by effectively using available workforce, machines, and materials Job relations--how to lead employees so that problems are prevented and analytical methods are used to effectively resolve problems Toyota was the earliest company to adopt TWI after World War II, and this methodology planted the seeds for the development of the Toyota Production System -- the gold standard of manufacturing excellence. In The TWI Workbook: Essential Skills for Supervisors, Patrick Graupp and Robert Wrona teach supervisors how to apply a four-step method for each of the three respective programs with numerous examples and exercises. In these exercises, supervisors will participate in hands-on application of the four-step method to actual jobs and employee problems from their own worksites. In addition, a CD companion includes blank forms needed to complete the exercises and implementation case studies.

Book Description
How clergy and congregations can navigate the tricky transition from one pastor to the next. The Changeover Zone addresses a critical and perennial need in the church: the process of handing the baton of pastoral leadership from one person to the next. Authors Jim Ozier and Jim Griffith offer practical, clear instructions and guidance for both clergy and congregations. They provide detailed sections especially for clergy who are taking over from a founding pastor and for those replacing long-tenured pastors. The book is packed with real-church examples, helpful tips and tactics that have been proven successful. This resource will expertly guide pastors, supervisors, and congregations in nearly any church setting or denomination. I just love this quote from the book: "How fast you run will keep you in the race; how well you hand off will win it". Over the next 10 years we will see one of the largest pastoral leadership transitions in our history. How well we handle this hand-off to the next generation may well determine our future. The Changeover Zone is timely, helpful and insightful as we approach these transitions in leadership. Every personnel committee, pastor, judicatory leader, district superintendent and bishop should read this book before approaching any major leadership changes. --Bob Farr, Director of Congregational Excellence, MO Conference, UMC; author, The Necessary Nine The Changeover Zone provides a roadmap for how to make healthy pastoral transitions, especially in churches making their first transition or first transition in a long time. This book will help you learn how to not only survive a church pastoral transition but how to thrive and gain momentum through the transition. We have utilized this roadmap in East Ohio and it works. I recommend this book to anyone involved with pastoral transitions at any level. --Kelly P. Brown, Director of Congregational Vitality, East Ohio Conference, UMC A great resource for pastors and churches who are going through transitions. I love how the change in a church pastor is seen not as an event, but as more of a process and from various key perspectives. This will be a valuable tool for my coaching with pastors and churches who are entering a season of transition. --Ken Willard, leadership coach, certified church consultant, and author, Time Management for the Christian Leader When our church learned that both long tenured pastors were leaving at the same, we knew we needed expert help. Jim Ozier led our leaders in a workshop based on The Changeover Zone to prepare us for this scary change. In this book the authors use sound biblical footing to show you what to do and how to do it, as you go through a pastoral change. --Cheryl Lee, SPPR Chairman, Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Suffolk, VA The action plan for the 100 days before and after a change of pastors (the Changeover Zone) is brimming with time-tested wisdom. Pastors, churches, and supervisors will be prepared to not only minimize the pain and confusion that comes with pastoral transitions, but actually maximize the potential for growth and new life in congregations. --Ken Irby, Shreveport District Superintendent, Louisiana Annual Conference, UMC This book is filled with insight and excellent counsel. I have been using the authors’ advice on making a great handoff for several years. You will nod your head as you read, and say, Of Course. Keep nodding. It will make a difference in raising up stronger leaders and building reproducible systems. And that’s what we all want. --Cathy Townley, Townley Coaching FINALLY! A simple, straightforward way to think about an essential part of ministry - transitions. Transitions can make or break a ministry and too often they happen without the purposeful thought that can make them successful. Whether your context is a new start pastor moving on or a long tenured pastor receiving a new appointment, this book will be your comprehensive guide in the process of ending well and starting strong.- Rev. Nicole Reilley, Director of New Ministries, Cal-Pac Conference
