Book Description

Book Description
Brings the reader up-to-date on the developments in GBR over the past 20 years. The first four chapters focus on the basic science of GBR in implant dentistry. Helps the reader to understand the biologic and biomaterial background of this well-documented and well-established surgical technique in implant dentistry—essential knowledge for the use of barrier membranes in patients. Focuses on the clinical applications of GBR. Presents specific indications and describes the criteria for patient selection, the step-by-step surgical procedure, and aspects of postoperative treatment. Reflects the immense progress of GBR in the past 10 to 15 years and the current clinical status of GBR in implant dentistry. Like its predecessor, is a must-have resource for all clinicians with interest and experience in implant dentistry. [editor].

Book Description
Drug Metabolism: Current Concepts provides a comprehensive understanding of the processes that take place following ingestion of a medicinal agent or xenobiotic, with an emphasis on the crucial role of metabolism (biotransformation). How a sound knowledge of these phenomena is incorporated into the design of effective new drug candidates is also explained. The user-friendly text focuses on concepts rather than extraneous details and is supported by many illustrated examples of biotransformations as well as frequent references to current critical reviews and articles highlighting the nature of research objectives in this vibrant area of medicinal development. The final topic on strategies for drug design relies on the background provided by the rest of the book. This book is ideally suited as an advanced text for courses in drug metabolism for students of medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology, biochemistry; and for courses in drug design and drug delivery for students of medicinal chemistry. It is also appropriate for professional seminars or courses that relate to the fate of a drug in the body, drug interactions, adverse reactions and drug design.

Book Description
This comprehensive review of existing and potential anticancer drugs and therapies by leading researchers from academia, government laboratories, and pharmaceutical companies offers essential insight into what has been accomplished and where the experimental therapy of cancer is going. The authoritative contributors illuminate the current status of the major molecules of cancer treatment, ranging from the nitrogen mustards through platinum complexes to interferons, cytokines, growth factors and their inhibitors, and on to immunotoxins, antisense oligonucleotides, and gene therapy. A companion volume by the same editor (Anticancer Drug Development Guide: Preclinical and Clinical Screening and Approval) details the processes by which new anticancer drugs are approved. These two volumes in the Cancer Drug Discovery and Development series reveal how and why molecules become anticancer drugs and thus offer a blueprint for the present and the future of the field.
