Book Description
The equations, in rectangular co-ordinates, describing the electromagnetic field configuration in a wave guide filled with a lossless homogeneous anisotropic material are presented. The anisotropic material which completely fills the wave guide is general in the sense that it is anisotropic with respect to both the permittivity and permeability but the anisotropy is restricted to the transverse plane. The solutions of these equations for an infinite parallel plane configuration are presented and the model configuration is discussed. The modal amplitudes in the anisotropic guide when excitation is accomplished by a single incident mode in an isotropic guide and the radiation from the open end for a single and two mode guide is also discussed. (Author).

Book Description
Recent advances in the study of the dynamic behavior of layered materials in general, and laminated fibrous composites in particular, are presented in this book. The need to understand the microstructural behavior of such classes of materials has brought a new challenge to existing analytical tools. This book explores the fundamental question of how mechanical waves propagate and interact with layered anisotropic media. The chapters are organized in a logical sequence depending upon the complexity of the physical model and its mathematical treatment.

Book Description
- Reflection and transmission of plane waves propagating in lossless, nonmagnetic and unbounded isotropic media through a plate of lossless, nonmagnetic and bounded homogeneous uniaxial media. - Static simulation of a transmitted RC (2) pulse, through a uniaxial plate, were generated. - The thesis presents the unique Coordinate-free approach in its application. - Only Normal Incidence condition were met. - All final equations, after being formulated and derived in another thesis, were completely included here. - Theoretical analysis were the base onto which the application was modeled; no numerical analysis were needed after using Matlab. - Suitable for both, Engineers and Physicists. - Theoretical foundation is based on "Theory of Electromagnetic Waves," by Hollis C. Chen.

Book Description
Ultrasonics International 91 is a documentation of conference proceedings that discusses the status and future of acoustic microscopy and its application to materials research, especially focusing on its quantitative analyses. Acoustic microscopy, using focused waves, has been receiving increased attention as a technology applicable to materials characterization at the microscopic scale. In acoustic microscopy, the excitation and propagation of leaky surface acoustic waves (LSAWs) in the environment of the coupling liquid at the solid specimens are observed. Three types of the systems have been developed: point-focus-beam (PFB), line-focus-beam (LFB), and directional PFB acoustic microscopes. In this paper, a brief history of the practical developments is first presented, followed by LFB acoustic microscopy for quantitative material characterization and some applications concerned with characterization of elastic anisotropy and inhomogeneity of electronic materials, such as LiNb03 and LiTa03 single crystals, and thin-film characterization. This book gives a comprehensive account of the majority of the oral and poster contributions made during the conference, and makes a valuable addition to a student or researchers' ultrasonic literature.

Book Description
Antennas and radio propagation are continuously and rapidly evolving and new challenges arise every day. As a result of these rapid changes the need for up-to-date texts that address this growing field from an interdisciplinary perspective persists. This book, organized into nine chapters, presents new antenna designs and materials that will be used in the future, due to the trend for higher frequencies, as well as a bird's eye view of some aspects related to radio propagation channel modeling. The book covers the theory but also the practical aspects of technology implementation in a way that is suitable for undergraduate and graduate-level students, as well as researchers and professional engineers.

Book Description
Ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation (NDE) plays an increasingly important role in determining properties and detecting defects in composite materials, and the analysis of wave behavior is crucial to effectively using NDE techniques. The complexity of elastic wave propagation in anisotropic media has led to a reliance on numerical methods of analysis-methods that are often quite time-consuming and whose results yield even further difficulties in extracting explicit phenomena and characteristics. Innovative and insightful, Elastic Waves in Anisotropic Laminates establishes a set of high-performance, analytical-numerical methods for elastic wave analysis of anisotropic layered structures. The treatment furnishes a comprehensive introduction, sound theoretical development, and applications to smart materials, plates, and shells. The techniques, detailed in both the time and frequency domains, include methods that combine the finite element method (FEM) with the Fourier transform approach and the strip element method (SEM). These -methods can also be used for expediently finding the Green's function for anisotropic laminates useful for inverse problems related to wave propagation, and methods for inverse analyses, including conjugate gradient methods, and genetic algorithms are also introduced. The text is complemented by many examples generated using software codes based on the techniques developed. Filled with charts and illustrations, Elastic Waves in Anisotropic Laminates is accessible even to readers from non-engineering backgrounds and offers a unique opportunity to discover methods that can lead to an understanding of the dynamic characteristics and wave motion behaviors of advanced composite materials.
