Book Description
Many in continental philosophy of religion aver that we are in a new moment, one where the intellectually marginalized and religiously bastardized traditions of mystical, intuitive, and esoteric apprehensions must be re-articulated and appreciated anew. In an era marked by catastrophic events and atrophied cultural institutions, what seems to be needed is an affirmation of the human potential to truck with non-human or even inhuman forces and intentions, at scales of speed, slowness, or intensity that break with consensual conceptions of human limitations. The essays in this volume outline patterns of mind and mortality, existence and ecstasy, creativity and expression, political possibility and religious matrix from a position that takes quite seriously possible relations with the absolute, however enigmatic, that modernity has denied and postmodernity has obscured in the name of academic skepticism and humanist reservations. Beyond post-modernist pastiche and post-secular nostalgia, these essays explore the potencies of archaic spiritual disciplines as well as the passions driving the mystical, heretical, and Gnostic intimations riddling contemporary relations with the absolute.

The famous Heptameron or Magical Elements attributed to Peter of Abano, philosopher and disciple of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, is a grimoire of magical evocation explaining how to conjure into visible appearance Angels, Genies, Intelligences and Spirits before the Magic Circle in order to make them execute all the tasks given by the exorcist: money, army, power, love, health, strength, divination, past, future, etc. This book contains the names of the Spirits, their seals and characters and how to trace the Circle of Ceremonies. Unlike the low-end versions found on the web, occultists will find in this edition the most practical version in print. Many error were corrected. This edition also contains the descriptions pertaining to the appearance and forms used by the Spirits when they physically show themselves to the exorcist. Finally, the book provides the Table of the Angels of the Hours according to the days, with their names and planets. Committed to quality and authenticity, all images, seals and characters have been fully traced. All texts have been fully transcribed and translated. No spelling corrections have been made to give the reader a complete antique experience.

The Crimson Pact Volume 3 features fifteen action packed and frightening short stories, including, "That Which We Fear" by New York Times bestselling author Larry Correia, and Steven Diamond, which features Diego Santos, a bad ass marine who knows the exact time of his death, and Jarvis "Lazarus" Tombs, a federal agent who investigates the paranormal, and has the strange habit of coming come back from the dead. "The Ronin's Mark" by Donald Darling is a story from an arch demon's point of view and provides a fascinating study of what happens when a demon becomes too close to the world he is trying to destroy. "Whispers in the Code" by Patrick M. Tracy uncovers the sinister truth about the secrets found inside the internet, and those trying to stop the end of days. "Stumble and Fall" by Isaac Bell tells a tale of his famous character, John Olshoe, who recalls a time when he failed to be the hero. "Singe, Smolder, Torch, Whither" by Eric M. Bosarge is a creepy tale Stephen King could have written if he decided to write a story with a more literary style. "The Jar of Needs" by Patrick M. Tracy is about a depraved customer who will do anything for the sullen barrista he's fallen in lust with. "Monsters on the Trail" by Patrick S. Tomlinson shows us what happens when investigators find out a demon may be involved with a political campaign. "David in Disguise" by Kelly Swails takes us to a 1960's Chicago protest march where a young woman, who wants to be a journalist, finds out she may have to join the family business after all . . . and hunt demons. "Fallout from My Former Life" by Valerie Dircks proves that a young woman can never escape her past, especially at her high school prom. "The Recruit" by Craig Nybo profiles the boxing champion, Micky Atlas, in what may be his last fight . . . on Earth. EA Younker gives us a steampunk apocalypse story, "Fight" where the rebels steal an airship and take the battle to the demon-possessed bots who have destroyed their world. "The Third Eye" by Chanté McCoy tells the tragic story of a failed Greek Orthodox priest in the early 1900's, who is unable to convince his countrymen that the demons are indeed coming. "A Contract Between Thieves" by Stephanie M. Lorée is one of the most entertaining stories in the anthology and is set in a "Italian Renaissance steampunk meets traditional sword & sorcery world" and features a rogue named Feni, and her lover, Raf, and their travails after Feni accepts the absolutely wrong job-that feels so right. "Shen Llamo's Daughters," takes us on a trip to Tibet in a time when the old customs of the mountain people, typified by pragmatic Yumi, battle with the new religion of Buddhism, and demonic spirits roam a haunted valley in the Himalayas. "The Scarlet Cloak" by Karen Bovenmyer, which book-ends this collection and will not soon be forgotten, is about a young woman who takes revenge on her enemies by using an artifact of terrible power that may consume her in the end, or perhaps it will set her true self free.

Book Description
Why, and in what manner, did artist Paul Klee have such a significant impact on twentieth-century thinkers? His art and his writing inspired leading philosophers to produce key texts in twentieth-century aesthetics, texts that influenced subsequent art history and criticism. Heidegger, Adorno, Benjamin, Merleau-Ponty, Lyotard, Sartre, Foucault, Blanchot, Derrida, and Marion are among the philosophers who have engaged with Klee's art and writings. Their views are often thought to be distant from each other, but Watson puts them in conversation. His point is not to vindicate any final interpretation of Klee but to allow his interpreters' different accounts to interact, to shed light on their and on Klee's work, and, in turn, to delineate both a history and a theoretical problematic in their midst. Crescent Moon over the Rational reveals an evolving theoretical constellation of interpretations and their questions (theoretical, artistic, and political) that address and continually renew Klee's rich legacies.

Book Description
Written with passion and intelligence, the letters of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in World War II express the raw idealism of anti-fascist soldiers who experienced the war in boot camps, cockpits, and foxholes, but never lost sight of the great global issues at stake. When the United States entered World War II on December 7, 1941, only one group of American soldiers had already confronted the fascist enemy on the battlefield: the U.S. veterans of the Lincoln Brigade, a volunteer army of about 2,800 men and women who had enlisted to defend the Spanish Republic from military rebels during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). They fought on the losing side. After Pearl Harbor, Lincoln Brigade veterans enthusiastically joined the U.S. Army, welcoming this second chance to fight against fascism. However, the Lincoln recruits soon encountered suspicious military leaders who questioned their patriotism and denied them promotions and overseas assignments, foreshadowing the political persecution of the postwar Red Scare. African American veterans who fought in fully integrated units in Spain, faced second-class treatment in America's Jim Crow army. Nevertheless, the Lincolns served with distinction in every theater of the war and won a disproportionate number of medals for courage, dedication, and sacrifice. The 154 letters in this volume, selected from thousands held in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives at NYU’s Tamiment Library, provide a new and unique perspective on aspects of World War II.
