Book Description
Excerpt from Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence River: The Venice of America Throughout the Island region various islands or parts of islands and in some cases plots of land on the main land, are maintained by the Canadian Government on one side of the International Boundary and the State of New York on the other side, for the free use of campers for recreational purposes. Some of these may be reached by automobiles and others by short water trips. Most of these parks have rock-sided, iron-topped stoves for open air cooking. In many cases suitable wharves for skiffs and motor launches are provided as well as pavilions, tables and benches for picnic and camping parties. There is plenty of land suitable for camping and the public is encouraged to use these reservations. An official is in charge who devotes his entire time to maintaining the parks and regulating their use. The Roosevelt Memorial Highway is adjacent to the south shore of the river from Cape Vincent to Ogdensburg, and the King's Highway parallels the river on the Canadian side. Following are the names of the parks and their locations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence River: From Kingston and Cape Vincent to Morristown and Brockville It is in no sense a money-making, scheme, the promoters being only desirous that the book shall pay its own way, as it shoul'd, and be a fair representation, up to date, of the Islands of the St. Lawrence and their present environment, and be at the same time, also, a fair illustration of the progress made up to 1894 in the art of typography and artistic decoration. In this spirit, then, this Book is issued, in the full belief that it will fill a want which has been felt for the past three years among the intelligent and appreciative class who come annually to this section, the importance of which appears now to be permanently established.
