Cosmopolitan Democracy

Book Description
Sisyphus' perpetual rolling of the nationalistic boulder up the hill of international cooperation is futile, for global issues call for global solutions. In response to this increasingly globalised world, which presents itself as a fait accompli to democracy (rule of the citizenry), the concept of cosmopolitan democracy has emerged. This begs the question whether cosmopolitan democracy is feasible in principle: is it a pleonasm, a complement or an oxymoron? I hypothesised that cosmopolitanism and democracy share relativism as their philosophical foundation. Indeed, they are its social and political manifestation, respectively. However, the logically final consequence of relativism is cosmopolitan isocracy (rule of equals), which is also complementary. Provided that cosmopolitan isocracy is the aspiration, the citizens' mentality must favour relativism over absolutism. Everything else will follow.
