Book Description
The manual is based on the practical experiences of the authors on the artificial reproduction and pond rearing of the African catfish Clarias gariepinus within FAO field projects in the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Kenya and Nigeria. The manual is divided into five major sections dealing with: 1) general biology, including natural feeding habits and reproduction; 2) artificial reproduction, including induced propagation without and through hormone injection; 3) fry nursing in earthen ponds, including pond preparation, fertilization, feeding and management; 4) monoculture, including feeding methods; and 5) polyculture with Tilapia. In addition, information is provided concerning the economics of different fingerling and grow-out farming practices in Africa, and concerning diseases and hybridization.

Book Description
""" This book has been written as a guide to the management and use of formulated feeds in intensive fish and shrimp culture. While its focus is on the use of commercially pro duced feeds in intensive production systems, it is anticipated that many of the practical issues covered will be of equal interest to those fish farmers who make their own feeds and to those who use formulated feeds in less intensive systems. Feeds and feeding are the major variable operating costs in intensive aquaculture and the book is primarily in tended to aid decision making by fish farm managers in areas of feeding policy. The dramatic increases in aquaculture production seen over the past 15 years have been made possible, in large part, by gains in our understanding of the food and feed ing requirements of key fish and shrimp species. A global aquaculture feeds industry has developed and a wide range of specialist feeds is now sold. The new options in feeds and feeding systems, which are becoming available, necessitate continual review by farmers of their feeding policies, where choices must be made as to appropriate feed types and feeding methods. While growth rates and feed conversion values are the prime factors of interest to farmers, other important issues, such as product quality and environmental impacts of farm effiuents, are also directly related to feed management practices.

Book Description
This study is focusing on formulating a fish feed with high level of protein-bound methionine and lysine for African catfish fingerlings in a lab scale production. The formulated fish feeds were consisted of several potential feedstuff ingredients. The chosen feedstuff ingredients were earthworm powder, fish meal, soybean wastes, L. leucocephala leaves, and rice bran. Each of the feedstuff ingredients used in the formulation was underwent proximate analysis such as amino acid profile (HPLC analysis), crude protein analysis (Kjehdahl method), crude lipid analysis (Soxtec Extraction method), moisture (Foh method) and ash content (Sluiter method) in order to obtain their nutritional composition. The Design of Experiment (DOE) through Design Expert software was used to formulate the fish feed. Gas Chromatography (GC) analysis was conducted to analyze for methionine and lysine level in the formulated fish feeds. Three formulations of fish feeds obtained from Design Expert software along with commercial fish feed were underwent feeding trials to study the growth rate, feed conversion ratio, survival rate and methionine and lysine digestibility of African catfish fingerlings. The African catfish fingerlings were obtained from local fish farm located in Jitra Kedah, Malaysia.

Book Description
Within this work, the influence of stocking densities, grading strategies to cannibals, water quality, Montmorillonite-illite/Muscovite (1g557) as a feed additive and the use of process water for aquaponic plant production on production success was investigated experimentally using African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Furthermore, it was calculated to what extent the survival rate and growth can differ under ideal and poor production conditions and what influence this has on production success.eng
