The legislator has stan-dardized the information system of CEFs to offer the possibility of well-arranged in-formation which is intelligible to all. Summing up, an investor has to identify the main risks and opportunities of a CEF investment and then to evaluate the possible return consistent with his portfolio strategy.

Swing Pricing and Fragility in Open-end Mutual Funds
Author: Dunhong Jin
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1513519492
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 46
Book Description
How to prevent runs on open-end mutual funds? In recent years, markets have observed an innovation that changed the way open-end funds are priced. Alternative pricing rules (known as swing pricing) adjust funds’ net asset values to pass on funds’ trading costs to transacting shareholders. Using unique data on investor transactions in U.K. corporate bond funds, we show that swing pricing eliminates the first-mover advantage arising from the traditional pricing rule and significantly reduces redemptions during stress periods. The positive impact of alternative pricing rules on fund flows reverses in calm periods when costs associated with higher tracking error dominate the pricing effect.

The Income Factory: An Investor’s Guide to Consistent Lifetime Returns
Author: Steven Bavaria
Publisher: McGraw Hill Professional
ISBN: 1260458547
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
The proven, all-weather investing strategy that delivers long-term, consistent returns The most common investing approach today—one that values “growth” over all else—can be ineffective and counterproductive for many investors, not to mention needlessly stressful. Now, one of Seeking Alpha’s most popular writers, Steven Bavaria, provides a groundbreaking alternative that will see you through all markets—up, down, and sideways. The Income Factory shows how to build an income stream that increases solidly and consistently—a result of re-investing and compounding the dividends. And the best part? This income stream actually grows faster during market downturns than during flat or rising market periods. The Income Factory sheds light on: • Why “high-yield” doesn’t have to mean “high-risk” • How credit investments perform more predictably than equity investments • Why “junk” is a misnomer—and why high-yield debt is safer than most of the stocks investors own • How to grow your wealth steadily without following the markets obsessively Through Bavaria’s strategy, cash income increases year after year at a predictable rate. For example, a 9% yielding portfolio doubles and re-doubles every 8 years. If you’re in for the long haul, an Income Factory lets you achieve your goals and still sleep well at night. Investing does not have to be about picking specific horses and hoping they win the race. An Income Factory achieves its goals by essentially betting on horses to make it around the track and finish the race. Those are easier bets to win, and they don’t require us to be glued to the financial news 24/7.

Guide to Hedge Funds
Author: Philip Coggan
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118163303
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 162
Book Description
Hedge fund managers are the new "masters of the universe." The best earn more than $1 billion a year and are so sought after that they can afford to turn investor money away. The funds they run have, to some extent, established an alternative financial system, replacing banks as lenders to risky companies, acting as providers of liquidity to markets and insurers of last resort for risks such as hurricanes, and replacing pension funds and mutual funds as the most significant investors in many companies—even in some cases buying companies outright. The revised and updated second edition of this lively guide sheds much needed light on the world of hedge funds by explaining what they are, what they do, who the main players are, the regulations affecting them, the arguments as to whether they are a force for good or bad, and what the future holds for them. "More people have a view about hedge funds than know about them. Philip Coggan bridges the knowledge gap in this clearly written guide. Every chapter is a goldmine of information and analysis, making it easy to learn about hedge funds. No investor, no investment adviser, no trustee, no dinner-table conversationalist should express opinions on the sector until they have read this book." —Elroy Dimson, BGI Professor of Investment Management, London Business School "While much has been written about hedge fund strategies and their (occasionally spectacular) failures, we have not yet seen a general primer to help the investor understand the world of hedge funds. Philip Coggan presents us with exactly that—a well-written, succinct summary of a world we all need to understand better." —Rob Arnott, Chairman of Research Affiliates and Editor Emeritus of the Financial Analysts Journal

Real Estate Modelling and Forecasting
Author: Chris Brooks
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139487167
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 474
Book Description
As real estate forms a significant part of the asset portfolios of most investors and lenders, it is crucial that analysts and institutions employ sound techniques for modelling and forecasting the performance of real estate assets. Assuming no prior knowledge of econometrics, this book introduces and explains a broad range of quantitative techniques that are relevant for the analysis of real estate data. It includes numerous detailed examples, giving readers the confidence they need to estimate and interpret their own models. Throughout, the book emphasises how various statistical techniques may be used for forecasting and shows how forecasts can be evaluated. Written by a highly experienced teacher of econometrics and a senior real estate professional, both of whom are widely known for their research, Real Estate Modelling and Forecasting is the first book to provide a practical introduction to the econometric analysis of real estate for students and practitioners.
