Book Description
Perhaps no variable has received as much attention in the global economic literature as inflation and unemployment; no other macroeconomic variable has been as threatening to the global economy as these two, though. Especially in a fragile economy like Ethiopia, the cost of these variables is the worst. But how do inflation and unemployment poison the economy? We studied the relationship between inflation, unemployment, and economic growth in the least developed transitional economy of Ethiopia, using the annual series of data over the period 1980-2020. We have developed one model for each of the key macroeconomic variables involved in our analysis while also controlling for the effects of other potential variables in each case. We estimated all the models following the ARDL framework and found that there is a long-term relationship between variables entered the inflation and growth models. But, there is no evidence of a cointegrating equation in the unemployment model. In the estimation of our long-term growth model, it is shown that inflation and unemployment inhibit economic growth in some way, but the effect of both is trivial. This means that inflation and unemployment, which are rising alarmingly, are not a problem for Ethiopia's economic growth; suggesting, in turn, that economic growth in Ethiopia is exclusive. But their temporary role in economic growth is expected. Further, there is no meaningful long-term relationship between economic growth and inflation, while unemployment and inflation are correlated as expected. Apart from some recent efforts to modernize Ethiopia's agriculture, it would be of great help to instantaneously ensure sustainable growth and stable prices by encouraging, at best, labor-intensive investments, and enhancing productivity in other sectors. So doing will be the key to making the exclusionary economic growth inclusive.

Book Description
Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Economic Cycle and Growth, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between inflation and economic growth in Ethiopia over the period of 1991/92- 2014/15 by using data at quarter base. The study was employed Johansen method of co-integration and vector error correction model and a technique of conditional least square. The result shows that both in long-run and short-run the relationship between inflation and economic growth is positive. Despite to this, the granger causality test tells us bi- directional causation between these two variables. The result also revealed that threshold level of inflation beyond on which inflation negatively affects economic growth of Ethiopia is 5 percent. Therefore, co-ordination between macro- economic policy makers is vital and should have to raise their hands and put their eyes on measures that keep down inflation below 5 percent to have sustainable economic growth in the country.

Book Description
Over the past two decades, the percentage of the world’s population living on less than a dollar a day has been cut in half. How much of that improvement is because of—or in spite of—globalization? While anti-globalization activists mount loud critiques and the media report breathlessly on globalization’s perils and promises, economists have largely remained silent, in part because of an entrenched institutional divide between those who study poverty and those who study trade and finance. Globalization and Poverty bridges that gap, bringing together experts on both international trade and poverty to provide a detailed view of the effects of globalization on the poor in developing nations, answering such questions as: Do lower import tariffs improve the lives of the poor? Has increased financial integration led to more or less poverty? How have the poor fared during various currency crises? Does food aid hurt or help the poor? Poverty, the contributors show here, has been used as a popular and convenient catchphrase by parties on both sides of the globalization debate to further their respective arguments. Globalization and Poverty provides the more nuanced understanding necessary to move that debate beyond the slogans.

Book Description
Trying to summarize the essentials of macroeconomic theory in the wake of the financial crisis that has shaken not only Western economies but also the macroeconomic profession is no easy task. In particular, the notion that markets are self-correcting and always in equilibrium appears to have taken a heavy blow. However, the jury is still out on which areas should be considered as failures and what which constitute the future of research. The overall aim of this text is to provide a compact overview of the contributions that are currently regarded as the most important for macroeconomic analysis and to equip the reader with the essential theoretical knowledge that all advanced students in macroeconomics should be acquainted with. The result is a compact text that should act as the perfect complement to further study of macroeconomics: an introduction to the key concepts discussed in the journal literature and suitable for students from upper undergraduate level through to PhD courses.

Book Description
This paper explores how fiscal policy can affect medium- to long-term growth. It identifies the main channels through which fiscal policy can influence growth and distills practical lessons for policymakers. The particular mix of policy measures, however, will depend on country-specific conditions, capacities, and preferences. The paper draws on the Fund’s extensive technical assistance on fiscal reforms as well as several analytical studies, including a novel approach for country studies, a statistical analysis of growth accelerations following fiscal reforms, and simulations of an endogenous growth model.

Book Description
In theory, regionalism and globalization are intended to be viewed as two separate concepts. However, as long as the approaches complement each other, considering these paradigms in tandem can have significantly positive effects on the overall status of the world economy. Regional Economy Integration and the Global Financial System addresses recent trends in regional integration projects and the strides that such projects are making on the road toward globalization. Focusing on a range of economic projects, emerging supranational units, and possible implications for future trends, this book is an essential reference source for professionals, scholars, and institutions interested in the dynamic effects of regionalism and globalization.
