Book Description
Complex multivariate testing problems are frequently encountered in many scientific disciplines, such as engineering, medicine and the social sciences. As a result, modern statistics needs permutation testing for complex data with low sample size and many variables, especially in observational studies. The Authors give a general overview on permutation tests with a focus on recent theoretical advances within univariate and multivariate complex permutation testing problems, this book brings the reader completely up to date with today’s current thinking. Key Features: Examines the most up-to-date methodologies of univariate and multivariate permutation testing. Includes extensive software codes in MATLAB, R and SAS, featuring worked examples, and uses real case studies from both experimental and observational studies. Includes a standalone free software NPC Test Release 10 with a graphical interface which allows practitioners from every scientific field to easily implement almost all complex testing procedures included in the book. Presents and discusses solutions to the most important and frequently encountered real problems in multivariate analyses. A supplementary website containing all of the data sets examined in the book along with ready to use software codes. Together with a wide set of application cases, the Authors present a thorough theory of permutation testing both with formal description and proofs, and analysing real case studies. Practitioners and researchers, working in different scientific fields such as engineering, biostatistics, psychology or medicine will benefit from this book.

The Collected Works of Wassily Hoeffding
Author: Wassily Hoeffding
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461208653
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 653
Book Description
It has been a rare privilege to assemble this volume of Wassily Hoeffding's Collected Works. Wassily was, variously, a teacher, supervisor and colleague to us, and his work has had a profound influence on our own. Yet this would not be sufficient reason to publish his collected works. The additional and overwhelmingly compelling justification comes from the fun damental nature of his contributions to Statistics and Probability. Not only were his ideas original, and far-reaching in their implications; Wassily de veloped them so completely and elegantly in his papers that they are still cited as prime references up to half a century later. However, three of his earliest papers are cited rarely, if ever. These include material from his doctoral dissertation. They were written in German, and two of them were published in relatively obscure series. Rather than reprint the original articles, we have chosen to have them translated into English. These trans lations appear in this book, making Wassily's earliest research available to a wide audience for the first time. All other articles (including those of his contributions to Mathematical Reviews which go beyond a simple reporting of contents of articles) have been reproduced as they appeared, together with annotations and corrections made by Wassily on some private copies of his papers. Preceding these articles are three review papers which dis cuss the . impact of his work in some of the areas where he made major contributions.

Permutation Tests
Author: Phillip Good
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 147573235X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 288
Book Description
A step-by-step manual on the application of permutation tests in biology, business, medicine, science, and engineering. Its intuitive and informal style make it ideal for students and researchers, whether experienced or coming to these resampling methods for the first time. The real-world problems of missing and censored data, multiple comparisons, nonresponders, after-the-fact covariates, and outliers are all dealt with at length. This new edition has more than 100 additional pages, and includes streamlined statistics for the k-sample comparison and analysis of variance plus expanded sections on computational techniques, multiple comparisons, multiple regression, comparing variances, and testing interactions in balanced designs. The comprehensive author and subject indexes, plus an expert-system guide to methods, provide for further ease of use, while the exercises at the end of every chapter have been supplemented with drills and a number of graduate-level thesis problems.

Sequential Estimation
Author: Malay Ghosh
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118165918
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 504
Book Description
The only comprehensive guide to the theory and practice of one oftoday's most important probabilistic techniques The past 15 years have witnessed many significant advances insequential estimation, especially in the areas of three-stage andnonparametric methodology. Yet, until now, there were no referencesdevoted exclusively to this rapidly growing statisticalfield. Sequential Estimation is the first, single-source guide to thetheory and practice of both classical and modern sequentialestimation techniques--including parametric and nonparametricmethods. Researchers in sequential analysis will appreciate theunified, logically integrated treatment of the subject, as well ascoverage of important contemporary procedures not covered in moregeneral sequential analysis texts, such as: * Shrinkage estimation * Empirical and hierarchical Bayes procedures * Multistage sampling and accelerated sampling procedures * Time-sequential estimation * Sequential estimation in finite population sampling * Reliability estimation and capture-recapture methodologiesleading to sequential tagging schemes An indispensable resource for researchers in sequential analysis,Sequential Estimation is an ideal graduate-level text as well.
