Book Description
This is a classic story of early mankind. Og is a boy living in prehistory at a time when fire is just starting to be used. This is a time when the battle with carnivorous beasts occurred on a daily basis and rival tribes fought each other for supremacy. Survival is a key element in this story which can be used to show young people just how fortunate they are that they don’t have to face such dangers on a daily basis. Some of the 19 stories in this volume are: The Call of Cooked Meat, The Fire Demon, The Crack in the Earth, The First Camp Fire, In Which the Wolf Becomes Dog, At Bay With the Wolf Pack, Captive of the Tree People, The Python’s Coils. The first stories of Og, a cave boy who lived half a million years ago, appeared on the pages of Boys' Life, the Boy Scout magazine (USA), in December, 1921. They were written by Irving Crump [1887-1979], a writer and editor of Boys' Life, and in 1922 they were published as a book, "Og - Son of Fire." A US nation-wide radio show, "Og - Son of Fire" aired in 1934-35, hosted by Libby. It was originally aired by WBBM, Chicago and later by WABC, New York and then over the CBS radio network. It was accompanied by premiums and the publication of a Whitman "Big Little Book" in 1936 which was converted into a Dell comic in 1937. ================ KEYWORDS/TAGS: Og Son of Fire, story, stories, young adult, folklore, young adult fiction, action, adventure, prehistory, carnivorous, animals, rival, tribe, survival, fight, outwit, danger, apes, blackness, boy, burn, canyon, cavern, caves, cliff, courage, crouch, Demon, fire, flames, forest, giant, Gog, hairy, huge, hunter, hunting, leader, man, meat, mountain, odor, odour, Og, pack, people, realization, Scar, stones, tiger, valley, Wab, warmth, wolf, wolves, woods, show of strength, unity, togetherness, baby, radio show, action comic, beasts, tree house, tree living, flee, scarper,

Book Description
"For one horror-fraught second the hairy boy stared at the terrible, massive head and trunk that waved slowly back and forth above him. He knew the great beast had marked him as an enemy. He knew that the curled trunk would strike swiftly and surely, that the great coils would close about him and that with one powerful toss he would be hurled skyward to fall and be trampled under the heavy feet of the ponderous beast. It was a terrible death to face and Og shrank back and shuddered as he watched the great trunk. He was so frightened he was no longer master of himself. It was as if the wicked little eyes had hypnotized him and held him spellbound. Slowly, with a weaving motion, a sinister swaying from side to side, the great trunk bent toward him, ready to strike." In a world lost to the mists of time, OG struggles for survival, and leads a small band of cavemen on a quest for life. This 1922 novel by Irving Crump spawned not only three more OG books, but a successful radio series, comics and more! OG's world is an adventure whose time has come....again! Book Description
New York Times Bestseller and Man Booker Prize Finalist: A novel of ancient Greece by the author Hilary Mantel calls “a shining light.” Alexander the Great stands alone as a leader and strategist, and Fire from Heaven is Mary Renault’s unsurpassed dramatization of the formative years of his life. His parents fight for their precocious son’s love: On one side, his volatile father, Philip, and on the other, his overbearing mother, Olympias. The story tells of the conqueror’s two great bonds—to his horse, Oxhead, and to his dearest friend and eventual lover, Hephaistion—and of the army he commands when he is barely an adult. Coming of age during the battles for southern Greece, Alexander the Great appears in all of his colors—as the man who first takes someone’s life at age twelve and who swiftly eliminates his rivals as soon as he comes to power—and emerges as a captivating, complex, larger-than-life figure. Fire from Heaven is the first volume of the Novels of Alexander the Great trilogy, which continues with The Persian Boy and Funeral Games. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Mary Renault including rare images of the author. “Mary Renault is a shining light to both historical novelists and their readers. She does not pretend the past is like the present, or that the people of ancient Greece were just like us. She shows us their strangeness; discerning, sure-footed, challenging our values, piquing our curiosity, she leads us through an alien landscape that moves and delights us.” —Hilary Mantel
