Book Description
“They say he met the King of the Sea, who taught him something important.” “And it all happened because he fed a fish!” “And it all happened because he shared what little he had.” Every day young Nuri makes his way to the sea shore to eat some bread and throw a piece into the waves. He does so because his father told him to “cast your bread on the water”. Even though Nuri can’t remember the second part of that beloved saying, but he follows his father’s advice and generously feeds the fish in the sea. One day, Nuri slips and falls into the water where he meets the fish he had been feeding. As Nuri marvels at the treasures hidden beneath the waves, the fish takes him to the bottom of the sea. There, Nuri meets Whisewhale, the King of the Sea. Wisewhale teaches him something important about the saying his father passed on to him all those years ago. This will change Nuri’s life forever, he just doesn’t know it yet. Told in beautiful prose, this heartfelt story is inspired by the Hebrew Bible verse, “Cast your bread on the water, and one day it will come back to you.” - Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) 11:1. Through moving and uplifting encounters, Nuri teaches readers the value of kindness and the importance of being generous even when you don’t have much yourself. This is a simple message that has a big impact as we see Nuri grow to become surrounded by the love that blossomed as a result of his generosity. Accompanied by magical and colorful illustrations that bring the characters to life, young readers will be captivated by the illustrator’s unique style. The perfect bedtime story for 4 to 8 year olds.

Book Description
This beautifully written, eye-catching book takes young readers on a journey through the story of creation. With the help of a magic paintbrush, the whole world is formed out of the darkness. First the oceans and land, then the moon and stars, followed by all the animals and people. The book is notable for the way it invites children to be creative and use their imagination: producing art is shown as a beautiful act of creation, and vice-versa. The message is a simple one: we all have the power to create beauty. This exceptional work of children’s literature has been a long time in the making. The illustrations were originally produced in 1973 by renowned Israeli artist Paul Kor. More than 25 years later, award-winning author Yael Gover completed the text, and the book was published in Hebrew. For this much anticipated first English-language version of the book, Kor’s original artwork has been rescanned, making the colors more vibrant and accurate than in any previous edition. This is a wholly unique book, made even more so by the fact that it recently made it into space! Israeli astronaut Eitan Stiva chose the book to take into space, where he read an edition of the work printed especially for the occasion – a spectacular journey for a spectacular book.

Book Description
As aquatic predators since the Cretaceous period, Elasmobranchs (sharks, skates, rays) and chimaeras, represent one of the oldest vertebrate groups, with very little morphological or physiological adaptations. Though they are remarkably ancient and praised as God-like creatures in some parts of the world, they are among the most feared in the public eye as a consequence of their negative portrayal throughout history. Unfortunately, as it is the case with many aquatic species, in recent years climate change and anthropogenic pressures such as food competition, pollution, and habitat degradation have significantly threatened their populations. On top of this, having low fecundity, late sexual maturation and slow growth rates as well as their opportunistic feeding behavior make them vulnerable to commercial fisheries even though, in most cases, they are not the target species. As a result, nowadays many species are endangered, some data-deficient or nearly extinct with the need for urgent knowledge for conservation actions. Producing science-based information on elasmobranchs and chimaeras is crucial for population sustainability, conservation and management actions. In this Research Topic, we invite author contributions on elasmobranchs and chimaeras biology and ecology (e.g., reproduction biology, feeding ecology, age and growth), distribution, migration and many other aspects to bring together this imperative knowledge to provide a base for conservation and management actions, locally or regionally.
