Author: Melissa García-Lamarca
Publisher: University of Georgia Press
ISBN: 0820368318
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
Non-Performing Loans, Non-Performing People tells the previously untold stories of those living with mortgage debt in times of precarity and explores how individualized indebtedness can unite resistance in the struggle toward housing justice. The book builds on several years of Melissa García-Lamarca’s engagement with activist research in Barcelona’s housing movement, in particular with its most prominent collective, the Platform for Mortgage-Affected People (PAH). What García-Lamarca learned from fellow activists and the movement in Barcelona pushed her to rethink how lived experiences of indebtedness connect to larger political- economic processes related to housing and debt. The book is also inspired by feminist scholars who integrate the lens of everyday life into explorations of contemporary political economy and by anthropologists who connect macroprocesses to lived experience. Distinctive in how it integrates a racialized, gendered, and decolonial perspective, García-Lamarca’s research of mortgaged lives in precarious times explores two principal phenomena: first, how financial speculation is experienced in the day-to-day and differentially embedded in the dynamics of (urban) capital accumulation, and second, how collective action can unleash the liberating possibility of indebtedness.

The Bank Analyst's Handbook
Author: Stephen M. Frost
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470091193
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 572
Book Description
It is not uncommon to meet professionals in financial services who have only a vague idea of what their colleagues actually do. The root cause is specialization and the subsequent development of jargon that makes communication between common specialists faster and more precise but is virtually impenetrable to everybody else. The Bank Analyst’s Handbook provides a modern introduction to financial markets and intermediation. Individual subject areas are covered in a thorough but clear and succinct manner. The breadth of the author’s experience as a sell-side bank analyst is exploited to good effect to pull together these threads and create a coherent framework for the analysis of financial markets, whether these are in advanced economies or developing markets. The Handbook is well-written and highly accessible. It builds on orthodox financial theory (with all of its flaws and controversies) but also highlights many of the real problems involved with translating such theory into practice. It can be appreciated at many different levels and this explains its wide target readership. The Bank Analyst’s Handbook: Bridges the gap between the more superficial introductory books and specialist works Covers all the important functions and subjects related to the financial services industry Provides a comprehensive overview for financial services professionals, business school students, consultants, accountants, auditors and legal practitioners, analysts and fund-managers and corporate managers. "An excellent guide for any professionals who are coming into the banking industry. Extremely well-written, covering clearly and lucidly a range of topics which many bankers themselves don't understand. I will make this book mandatory reading - no, make that studying - for anybody I hire to work as a financial sector consultant." —Chris Matten, Executive Director, PricewaterhouseCoopers "A great insight into the often murky and impenetrable world of banking... compulsory reading for analysts and investors alike." —Hugh Young, Managing Director, Aberdeen Asset Management Asia Ltd

ISBN: 1513583093
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 23

The coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, which has hit financial systems across Africa, is likely to deteriorate banks’ balance sheets. This could lead to a sharp increase in nonperforming loans (NPLs) in the short to medium term.

Profiting from Non-Performing Mortgage Notes
Author: Amed Niaz Hazel, Sr.
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781548588526
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Profiting From Non-Performing Mortgage Notes is a book that bridges the gap between investor and banker. It's designed to expose the world of banking as it relates to mortgages, to show the layman, the average investor, and the sophisticated investor that this is totally possible, to become the banker. It is designed to show how the bankers make money off of mortgage debt and how they profit in the event of a default on a mortgage. It also shows one of the main strategies that bankers hate to use but that the layman and investor can use because of flexibility and short times as it relates to decision making. The layman transitioning into the banker's mindset has that flexibility of making decisions fast, without the need of a 12, 15, or 30-room boardroom meeting designed to make the decision on a few loans. The common man can make a decision within five minutes, without a business meeting, and implement powerful strategies to get a return on investment. This book, this work, is the culmination of the last 10-plus years of my life being in this mortgage note industry and closing hundreds of mortgage note deals. It will open your eyes and show you that this is possible for you too. You can become the banker!
