I had only one thing I could convert into greenbacks--a piece of sole leather, for which I received a good price, but not enough to begin a hazardous journey upon. However, it would take me to Pulaski, and I would go there if not to Murfreesboro, if I could buy a ticket without taking the oath, and if I could get seats in the car, the road being held and run by the military. After an especially sleepless night, I arose unrefreshed the next morning, and was on my way to the dining room when I was startled by the sound of a familiar voice.
