My Life as a Crow
Author: Francois Gravel
Publisher: James Lorimer & Company
ISBN: 9781550284171
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 88
Book Description
"What happens when a witch recites a secret spell over you late at night? A lot! For one thing, you could turn into a crow. "At first I wasn't sure I wanted to be a crow. Then I realized it was great. I could fly, I could shout insults, I never had to take a bath. It's a good way to get even with bullies, the grouchy woman on the corner, and even the babysitter who never lets you watch TV. The only problem is: If all the witches in the city leave for a convention in New York, how do you get to be a kid again?" Imaginative and very funny, with an English text by Canada's premier literary translator, My Life as a Crow will amuse young readers and entertain their parents.

P.S. If you think this book seems familiar, youre probably right. The book you see here shouldnt be considered a new or updated product. But if youre in the mood to learn something new, check out some of our other books. Were always writing about new topics!

Hockey, PQ
Author: Amy Ransom
Publisher: University of Toronto Press
ISBN: 1442670029
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 276
Book Description
A wide-ranging study that examines everything from the blockbuster movie franchise Les Boys to the sovereigntist hip hop group Loco Locass, Hockey, PQ explores how Canada’s national sport has been used to signify a specific Québécois identity. Amy J. Ransom analyzes how Québécois writers, filmmakers, and musicians have appropriated symbols like the Montreal Forum, Maurice Richard, or the 1972 Summit Series to construct or critique images of the Québécois male. Close analyses of hockey-themed narratives consider the soap opera Lance et compte (‘He shoots, he scores’), the music of former pro player Bob Bisonnette, folk band Mes Aïeux, rock group Les Dales Hawerchuk, and the fiction of François Barcelo. Through these examinations of the role hockey plays in contemporary francophone popular culture, Ransom shows how Quebec’s popular culture uses hockey to distinguish French-Canadians from the French and to rally them against their English-speaking counterparts. In the end, however, this study illuminates how the sport of hockey unites the two solitudes.
